I was wondering if any of you have had your SKS trigger tuned up by Meanoldfart? I sent mine off last week and will post once I get it back.

I expect to receive by trigger assembly back from Meanoldfart probably around the end of the week - will let you know what I think. Asked him to fix the safety so it'd be spring-loaded instead of friction-fit, too (assembly is from '51 Tula). My take so far is that he's pretty nice to deal with and knows what he's talking about.

I just got my trigger back today, from what I can tell it's going to be good. I don't have it reinstalled yet but so far there is a very smooth first stage take up followed by a crisp short second stage. I'll post more after I try it out.

Got an e-mail from Meanoldfart that my trigger group is going to take longer than anticipated because the spring didn't turn out quite right and he wants to try again with some different spring stock he'll be receiving. So I probably won't have the trigger back by the end of this week, but...

That he wants to hang onto it to do the job right speaks very highly of him. I'm looking forward to having an SKS with a good trigger, and especially will be glad to have gotten rid of the friction-fit safety. Weird that the Russians did friction-fits on many SKS's: I used to have a Norinco and thought its spring-loaded safety was very well-designed; conversely, I thought the friction-fit safety on my Russian was an abomination.

Well, I reinstalled the trigger tonight and dry fired it a few times, there's about 1/4" very smooth take up then a very crisp release after about another 1/8". So far I like what I feel!

I went out tonight and fired a few rounds, I'm very pleased with the reduced travel and the 2-stage feel the I now have. With this trigger and my recoil buffers installed it felt more like a 22 mag than a sks.

2 thumbs up for Meanoldfart's sks trigger work!
