Ok, so I know no one knows where to find a genuine NHM-91 bipod, and the CDNN "NHM91" bipods don't fit.

What about the European RPK bipods? anyone know if one might fit the NHM-91 and where to get one? I don't care if it extends or not, just want one that will fold up when attached to the barrel.

Looking at pics of the AKM bipod, and comparing it w/the unit on my Chinese piece, I'm pretty sure the Euro units won't fit.

Out of curiosity, why don't the CDNN units work? Too big, too small ????

The barrels of my NHM-91 rifle is .668" in diameter and the MAK-91 barrel is .680" where the bipod attaches.
The bipods sold by CDNN are comerical Chinese mfg. and there are a couple of different models. They fit the barrel of the MAK-90 that is .608" with the use of the thin sheet metal shim that comes with some models of the Chinese bipods. The barrels of NHM-91 and MAK-91 rifles are too large for the bipod to fit and the part that clamps around the barrel won't close so the pin/screw can be inserted to hold it on.
Here is a pic of one type of the Chinese bipods. One side of the barrel clamp is pinned and acts as a hinge. The other has a screw that holds the clamp closed. The diameter of the inside of the clamp when it is closed is on this model is .650" but the bottom of the clamp is only .05" thick. So reaming it out to fit the larger diameter barrel will leave it pretty thin.

I just got an original by chance not too long ago for a reasonable price. I had folks offer a few in the $100 range, which if I hadn't gotten lucky I might have paid.

I did recently get an e-mail from a guy looking to sell a few but he hadn't decided on a price. I f he gets in touch I'll post here or in the Norinco forum. I'd like a spare myself as long as they aren't too high--I'll have to do some digging to see if he posts on this board. I'd like to experiment with changing out the '91 legs for the newer Norinco legs as Little Jasec did on his RPK clone featured in the Norinco photo thread. It looks fairly straight-forward but it may change muzzle height--guess I'll have to ask him...

You know that for every NHM91 with no bipod, its bipod is sitting discarded in someone's garage....and we would be happy to pay good money for it!

The thing about CDNN's bipod that irks me is that it was advertised as an NHM91 Bipod, but wont fit an NHM91!! Whats up with that? I'm keeping it as it will fit others, and is just not worth the hassle to send back.

Also some of these chinese bipods are so heavy it's ridiculous. Can anyone recommend a good, lighter weight bipod that will fold up and still let the barrell rotate? I am only familiar with Harris Bipods. I would like something that has feet like the NHM or RPK bipod, so it would look like it belongs on an AK.

CDNN has a way with words! "Original Military"---oh yeah, who's military and what rifle?

Problem with the Harris style is the small size of the AK's lower forend. Versa-Pod make a model similar to the Harris with the same style metal feet you're refferring to. They mount a bit differently and might be to big for an AK.

I'll dig through my e-mails and try to contact the guy who said he had a few.
