View Full Version : Who sells the CHEAPEST Bulg. or DDR syn. stock sets?
Hello all. Who sells the LEAST EXPENSIVE synthetic stock sets for the AKM/AK-74 series of rifles? Also, I would prefer that these also come with the gas tubes, if at all possible. Do these usually come with all the applicable hardware also, or can you use that which you already have on the wooden stocks? Also I need this for a STAMPED rec.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Inter Ordnance has new EG sets with the gas tube for 24.95. Federal Ordnance has used EG sets for around 15.00.
K-Var is TOO EXPENSIVE on practically EVERYTHING that they sell.....NO-GO. Interordnance I might try.....but I hear they're assholes to deal with. Fed. Arms I know nothing about. Thanks for the info., gentlemen.

XXX,
You get what you pay for...it's true. For 79.00 from K-VAR, you'll get the following:
US made Bulg. set that is IDENTICAL. Will increase your US made parts count by 2(butt and upper/lower) if installing on a 922 applicable gun. Install that evil comp. you've been wanting!
HIGH quality polymer, NOT plastic.
Excellent fit and finish, very beefy.
Lower includes HEAT SHIELD! No melting of "plastic" or your HAND! Read the posts, the cheapies will melt.
Butt is very sweet! Side mounted strap loop.
"Lightning" Cut-outs on each side. Quality ribbed end-cap with trap-door for cleaning kit. 1&1/4" increase in length/pull.
I just installed a set on my SAR-1. You'll thank yourself for spending the extra to get a good/great set.
Don't forget to order the 2-special screws for the butt. Adds a couple of bucks. And LUBE the upper before twisting the gas-tube in(instructions with pics on homepage menu, AK-47.net).

PS, what is BTT...I'm still in training.
BTT= Back To Top. I bought a DDR set (yes they're UGLY, I know) from Fed. Arms today. Price can't be beat @ $14.95. VERY NICE people on the phone to deal with too! I just can't see spending $80 on a "beater stock" for a SAR-2. Besides, I DON'T LIKE the extra 1" or 1 1/4" (whatever it is) pull on the K-Var stock sets. I LIKE THE SHORT STOCKS on the AK! If i DID buy the K-Var set (I won't,) then I'd have to replace the USA butt assy with the orig. Bulg. butt assy., so really I'd be out probably over a hundred and twenty or thirty bucks really. That's ok. I can buy more ammo or mags or something else like that! Why don't K-Var make the USA made stocks in the STANDARD LENGTH TOO? GIVE US A CHOICE?!?!?!

Plastics are polymers.
I agree with XXX, they should make the US set available with the original length of pull. While they're at it, the US made set should also be _cheaper_ than the Bulgarian originals. It is a copy, no matter how good it is, and people who inflate their prices just to take advantage of the "gotta have US parts" illegal gun regulations are not helping RKBA efforts. I'd pay $50 for a set, for $80 I'll pass.

If you don't like the chocolate brown color of the german plastic, do what I did and paint it black.

Hey Florgy, that's COOL! How well does the paint stick to the plastic/polymer (whatever!?) What type of paint did you use? how did you "prep" it? I thought of that too, but thought that the paint might not stick too well! I might have to try that when my DDR stocks come in.

Gents,
I put the K-VAR stocks on my SAR-2. The extra length is barely noticeable, so I would not let that stop you from buying. I have handled AKs with elongated stocks that were far more obtrusive.
As for the price, well $80 may be a bit high but what if they were $50? $30 bucks won't break the bank and they are by far the best stocks I have ever seen for an AK. Having put many after market stocks on other rifles over the years (Mini-14s, M1s, etc) I can say that these are some of the best stocks I have ever seen for any military style weapon.
However, for $15 the EG set painted black does look pretty sharp! What kind of paint was that again? Might be nice to paint some as spare parts.

I used the flat black from the krylon camo paint series(found it at wal mart on clearence for $1.50 a can). I degreased the plastic and wood thoroughly then applied three coats of paint. I didn't bother with primer and after three months it's holding up pretty good. The good thing is that if I get a scratch or something I can easily touch it up and the stocks will look brand new.
The front hand gaurds on my rifle are wood, top is chinese, bottom is east german and they painted up easily too. I think a lower off a maadi painted black would look even better, but I didn't have an extra to use at the time. Regards.
