This is one of the Ultra rare, Interarms Special order, Carcano-Mannlicher Sporters, made for the Emir of Waziristan in the early 1960s.....

Pardon my joke.
As already posted on another forum, it is an Interarms (Sam Cummings) sporterization done in the 1960s in either Italy or England(most probably England) similar to the same conversion done to ex-Spanish Civil War Gew 98(M), which were done at the same time.
These sporters were advertised in 1960s gun magazines( GUNS, G&A, AR) as quality affordable sporters. The conversion work was all professionally done, and whilst I don't personally consider it a "Milsurp", it is part of the chain of the weapon's history up to final disposal. At least it is not a "Bubba" job.
Some of the carcano rifles were rechambered to 6,5mm Mannlicher Schoenauer. Check the British proof markings on the barrel for cartridge ID. (6,5x52, Italian, 6,5x54, MS)

1. thank you for the help. At the very least it was worth the couple of dollars I spent on it. And you are right it is a professionally done conversion. It might not be worth much but it does show some of the history of the rifle. Thanks again

It is a beautiful sporter - maybe one of the coolest looking sporters I have seen. I would strip the cheesy paint off the barrel and action and get it blued, myself.

Let us know how it shoots, Neil!
