Wow, a 1944? Are you sure? I have a 43 Terni and thought it was the last year of Ternis, as that's the year of the Italian Armistice.

What kind of M38? Cavalry Carbine?

I heard the Nazis kept running Terni after the Armistice.

If that is a 44, I would call it noncommon at the least!

2. It was a UFIXEM from Century for $44.00 dollars. Ive found a buttplate and the front band. I still need the bayolug and the front piece along with a side swivel. Im shopping. I might have to buy another UFIXEM to get the parts I need.

Luck? You need LUCK?

Seems as I recall, your first Carcano was a 1940 Terni Short Rifle with a C prefix!

Dear Neil,

this is indeed interesting. From everything we know, Mod. 91/38 short rifles were only built from 1940 to 1941. Often, the 1941 is badly stamped. However, if the Christian date and the Fascist era date are both correct (XXII could mean 1944 indeed), this would be most unusual since all Italian manufacturers stopped dating their guns in 1943.

We would all appreciate a good close-up of the barrel base (from various perspectives). Please let me know the other markings and the full serial number(s) on receiver and stock, either publicly here or via email if you prefer.

As to parts: I got some and will be glad to help out if you can't find them in the USA.

Best regards,
Alexander Eichener

1. I will post pics to you via e-mail and give you all info I have. This weapon has graffiti on it as well. As can be seen on the buttstock a cross has been stamped in using a ring punch of some kind. I will clean the proofs on the reciever and send them out to you this evening.
