My first deer rifle was my grandfather's 94 Swedish Mauser (the real carbine, not the short rifle 38). It had a 1903 date stamp if I recall. I can't remember who built it offhand, as I haven't seen it in 10years. Maybe Oberndorf, but probably not Husquvarna. The rifle had been sporterized in the 60's. "Sporterization" consisted of removal of all of the forend "extra wood". Grandpa kept the furniture, except that there was no top forend piece. The rifle had also been fitted with a Herter's muzzle brake, though I'm still not sure if it was cut and rethreaded or simply affixed to the threads for a muzzle nut. Ugh.
Anyway, after grandpa died, it was restocked in a crappy ramline stock and reissued to me as my first deer rifle. Ugh again. It used to put 140gr soft point reloads about 12" high at 100yds, even with the sight bottomed out.
Eventually dad sold it. I'll probably never get another chance to get a Swede again :(
