I have heard several people mention the bump method for firing an AK. What exactly is this? Is it simply removing the sear so that there is nothing to hold the hammer back after the carrier moves forward?

Thanks

NO! Please don't do that! That's dangerous -- it's a deliberate slam-fire. The bump method is a safe mathod of shooting very rapidly, though with little accuracy.

Brace your right arm against your body with your trigger finger held rigidly. DON'T hold the gun with this hand. Some people prefet to use the second finger instead. Gripping the rifle at the forearm / handguard with the left hand, pull it FORWARD against your finger until it fires. The recoil will overcome your pull and jerk away from your finger, allowing the trigger to reset. Then your arm pulls the gun forward again, against your finger, firing it again. The recoil again blows the gun back, allowing the trigger to reset. When you get the right feel, you can control the rate of fire and the duration. The only problem is that you are firing from the waist, holding the gun with one hand, and the recoil is jerking the gun and you around. However, I suspect that you could get to keep it on a 55 gallon drum at 30 yds, or something about the size of a 55 gallon drum. Also, while you are just throwing bullets downrange, anyone downrange will have a strong feeling that EVERY ONE of those is aimed precisely at him. It's just as accurate as sticking a full-auto around a corner and squeezing off a burst.

Since it is VERY inaccurate, do it only where you have a safe place to shoot. Also, it will get you banned from some ranges, and will cause hard feeling at others. Guage your fellow shooters carefully before you do it. Last, it will go through a LOT of ammo VERY fast. And it will heat up your barrel quickly.
