ALICE is an anacronym for All-purpose Light-weight Individual Carrying Equipment. So refering to an ALICE pack means a military backpack. Med and large.

ALICE is a generic term for many things pertaining to the individual troops equipment. cya

Cool, thanks for the info. Is it a good pack?
Where can I see one? Would an army surplus store have one?

yup your local army/navy suplus store should have them
theres different sizes --a butt pack that goes on the alice belt, and a small, med, large ruck sack
check out www.uscav.com (http://www.uscav.com)
and some of the other military equip suppliers

and on the 8th day GOD made the AK-47 and saw that this was good

Don't buy any ALICE stuff from USCav! They're higher than a cat's a$$!!! Check your local surplus shop and you can find stuff lot's cheaper.

DEFINITELY!!! Use mail order places like that only if you have to. Way too high. I have only ordered from places like that when I couldn't find it anywhere else. cya

I paid about $60 or $70 when I bought my large/frame (used) from sportsman's guide about a year ago. Cheaper than Dirt has used ones too. Try to get a real surplus one if you can.

I got mine for $50.00, personally I want something different because the pack does not work with back mounted ammo pouches or buttpack with the frame. I am looking at either a south african military pouch or perhaps a german one.

Don't believe these guys! The ALICE pack was a very small pack developed for liberal americans who, somehow, managed to get into the Mil. When first developed they were actually called "Nancy boy packs" First issued to men who care about our children, and were Rhodes Scholers! Upon returning from Russia the packs were issued to these men. There size were small because the men usually had problems carring their egos, and only needed something small to stash their STASH, and rubbers in. Later in the 90's, these small packs were renamed "KLINTONS", as we found that they were not very useful.
