I'm thinking of getting a XM15 E2S Rifle at what seems to be a good price for $500 used. Anyway, is there a way to make this rifle a flat top?

You could just buy the complete upper, then you would have two rifles in one, and you can change them back and forth depending on your mood of the day. Complete uppers for ARs are completely interchangeable. How is that for a complete answer?:D

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I'll go ahead & pick this one up. Shouldn't another upper reciver run ~$200 or more?

For a complete barrelled upper, it may cost that much...

Id go with the complete upper.I have the XM-15 E2S and wouldnt ever be without it,its my baby.;)I originallgy ordered the A3 flat top model but one of the gunshop guys F'ed up on the order.Bushmaster was out of stock on the Flat top model M4's when I thought about an exchange so I kept it as I didnt want to wait. One of these days Ill get a flat top upper for it.Bushmaster IMO is one of the top AR makers out there.I will always be faithful to them.
Regards,
I too consider Bushmaster to be the top of the line although Colt and Armalite make some damn fine rifles. Of the 3, only Bushmaster caters to the do it yourselfer !

Wow. $500 is a great deal. Mine was almost $900.00 new, but it did come with the flat top.

The $500 price for a used BM is excellent.
As the others have said, for not a lot of money you can either get the receiver and probably "rent" the wrench and blocks from another board member, buy the tools yourself and sell them after, or simply buy a complete flattop upper assembly with the barrel configuration of your choice.
Even if you spent $300 on a complete upper less bolt and carrier, you will have the same or less in the two-upper-and-one-lower ensemble than the XM15-E2S priced new.
I have two XM15-E2S Bushmasters, one is the "AK" Carbine and the other is a 16" A2 without muzzle device and I have found them to be very much worth the money, but I do want to dust off my 30-year-old skills (2111) and put one together on an RRA receiver set.
