Just bought a PSO-1 scope and took to the gunsmith to boresight.Am told that these can be calibrated for 7.62 x 39 (for Saiga)and 7.62 x 54 (Tiger).Supposedly, mine is cal. for 7.62 x 39.My gunsmith is lost, and I think that he will just zero crosshairs on 100 yard grid with elevation knob initially set at one and windage set at zero prior to any adjustments. If scope is cal. from factory for 7.62 x 39,does this mean that I will be able to fit a 1.5 meter target between 100 m graduations at the range?I realize that this caliber is flat for only 100 meters or so,but am interested in using this sighting sytem ,if possible. Will this scope,if factory calibrated correctly, compensate for 7.62 x 39 drop off at greater ranges ,or is this all an exercise in futility?Tantal,Dadduck or anyone else out there-please feel free to respond.Thanx!-Gearhead

Gearhead, TTBOMK the PSO-1 is cammed only for the 7.62x54. I'd *love* to get one cammed for the 7.62x39 as I recently picked up a Romanian PSO-1 for my SLR-95 and I really like the combo. After examining some ballistics graphs here's what I've done: Sight in your rifle at 200 with the elevation turret set to '2'. You should hit dead on at 200. To hit at 300 set the elevation turret to '3.5', to hit at 400 set the elevation turret to '5', to hit at 500 set the elevation turret to '6'. This isn't exact but it's close enough and easy to remember. The only commercial scope available that's calibrated for 7.62x39 that I'm aware of is the "POS-4" which has a horizontal rangefinder (vice the vertical rangefinder on the PSO-1) and bullet drop stadia out to 700m. I've used the POS-4 and prefer the uncluttered reticle of the PSO-1. My SLR-95/PSO-1 combo gets 2" 3-shot groups at 100yds and 4" 3-shot groups at 200yds. The scope will never replace my Cobra but it makes shots on man-sized targets possible out to 300-400yds.

There is a downloadable manual for the PSO-1 scope at http://club.guns.ru/manual/svd/2.html

Many thanks,Tomac and JA!My gunsmith zeroed crosshairs with elevation knob at 8-did not realize that removing 2 set screw allows you to calibrate adjustment knobs! He then boresighted again.Says I should be at least within 6" at 100 yards. That's great that you're able to hit targets accurately past 100 yards,Tomac! Will take out to the range and see how she flies! Will also check out the manual,JA-Thanx again, guys!Gearhead

Gearhead, once you've got the scope sighted in at your selected range (let's say 200m and the elevation turret reads '8') you can loosen (*not* remove, only go 1-1/2 to 2 turns) the two outer screws on the turret then turn the range marker (*not* the top plate) from '8' to '2' then tighten the screws. Now the turret markings match your selected range. You can do the same thing to set the windage turret markings to '0' once you're sighted in.

Dear Tomac-Thanx again!Once me and my gunsmith figured it out,he turned the range marker to 1 and the elevation to zero, keeping the outer wheels static. Will give you an update on accuracy-I'm sure I'll have more questions!Regards-Gearhead
