Dear JA, Tomac and others-My gunsmith is as baffled as I am with the PSO-1 Scope. He moved the elevation dial indicator to 8 when zeroing in at 300 feet. After removing set screws and turning dial indicator to 1,he gave gun to me and I took to range.Could not even hit paper at 300 feet!I took it back,he said it was shooting high, and boresighted it.Still could not hit paper at 300 feet.I took it back and he boresighted it again.Again could not hit paper at 300 feet.He is going to sight in scope again by shooting, but will not remove set screws and change range dials when finished.I notice that after the last erroneous adjustment, that there were no discernible ajdustment clicks or stops between 0 and 1 on the elevation. Also noticed that the deflection range dial could not be reset to 0,because screw holes won't line up.I'm a newbie with scopes, but cannot understand why moving range indicating dials while keeping the top knob static would change sighting.I also believe that my gunsmith's boresighting is very inaccurate and that if he does this again,I will have to shoot at 75 feet first.Long, dumb story and I appreciate any info on this.Maybe my gunsmith is just not that competent with AK's and the PSO-1 scopes. He did tell me that turning elevation screw clockwise raises the POI.What direction on deflection or windage changes POI to left or right?Long, dumb story and I appreciate ANY info on this!Thanx all! http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif-Gearhead

Gearhead, when I was first sighting in my PSO I made the mistake of *removing* the 2 screws when resetting the range dial instead of just *loosening* the screws enough (about 1.5-2 turns) to move the range dial. Your 'smith (though well-intentioned) may have inadvertantly undone his boresighting by removing the screws. I suggest you try sighting in at 25yds to get on paper then move out to 100yds. After sighting in you can loosen the screws on the range & deflection turrets and set the markings as you wish before tightening the screws. Rotating the deflection turret clockwise moves the reticle to the left, groups to the right. One other thing, make sure the scopemount locks *solidly* onto the rifle's siderail. If the scope is loose or works loose during firing you will experience very poor accuracy (another little gem from personal experience...) HTH, let me know if you have any other problems/questions...

I think Tomac is right, the gunsmith most likely pulled the screws out too much or he loosened the center screw which is not to be messed with. make sure that scope is tight, if not adjust the screw/locking washer on the underside of the clamp, until the scope is tight. Good luck!

Dear Tantal and Tomac-Thanx for the responses. My gunsmith definitely removed the screws all the way!How do you know that you removed the screws enough for resetting the range dials but not screwing up the settings? Also, does rotating the elevation knob clockwise raise your point of impact? My scope is definitely on tight,so that is not a problem. How do you'all sight in the PSO-1?Should a person try to hit bullseye at 300 feet and then readjust the elevation range indicator to one and the deflection range indiator to zero?Thanx again for the input.I will keep you updated.Regards-Gearhead http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

Gearhead, you'll know the screws are loosened enough when you can rotate the range mark ring without turning the top of the turret (adjustment mechanism) at the same time. Turning the elevation knob clockwise lowers the reticle, raises the point of impact. Again, try sighting in first at 25yds to make sure you're on paper then move out to 300ft/100yds for final sighting in. The PSO-1 is cammed for the 7.62x54 the bullet drop range markings on the elevation turret won't be accurate. This is an approximation but once sighted in at 200yds you can set the range markings to 3.5 to hit at 300yds, set to 5 to hit at 400yds. HTH!...

Dear Tomac,Tantal and JA-Again,thank you for the input!I backed off the elevation set screws 1.5 revs and had no problems turning the range dial!I'm assuming that as long as you keep the top knob static and very carefully rotate the range knobs and then very carefully retighten the set screws that you won't lose zero. How sensitive is this adjustment technique?Would not ask, but my gunsmith does not want to touch the set screws and just wants to zero.I may have to adjust range screws myself.Thanx again!

Gearhead, since the actual adjustment mechanism uses click-detents you'll know if you accidentally move the mechanism while setting the range dial. Just don't touch the very center screw(s). Keep us posted...

Dear Tomac,Tantal and JA-Again,thank you for the posts! This is what I'm going to ask the gunsmith to do:Boresight and back off on elev. and defl. set screws just enough to change to 1 and 0 respectively(no more than 2 revs!).Tighten set screws and see if boresight is off.Go to range and sight in at 300 feet if possible.Again, back off on elev. and defl. set screws just enough to change to 1 and 0 respectively(no more than 2 revs!).Retighten and again shoot at 300 to note if zero is off.
If this method does not work,I may just ask him to zero and not touch range dials. But I understand if the scope is zeroed at 100 m,that you can adjust the elev. knob to shoot out to 200 m or more!Again, thanx for all of the input and I will keep all of you informed-Reagrds- http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif-Gearhead
