Posted at Tuco's as well...
Just to further the previous discussion regarding German parts used on Spanish M43 rifles, just yesterday I stumbled accross a very nice, matching M44 Spanish Air Force Mauser at a local pawn shop. (Picked it up for $80 I might add) Upon close examination and detail cleaning when I got home, I noticed the same thing as previously discussed. The rear sight, sight base, trigger and cocking piece are German marked in either Weimar or Imperial style. (see the pix) The barrel has two sets of serial numbers one partially buffed out and one matching the reciever. (see the pix) Leading me to believe the barrel may be from an other gun as well. As per the previous discussion it was speculated that the early or transitional M43's were made up all or in part from German parts. It is interesting to note that this Air Force marked M44 also has some german parts. I was under the impression (maybe wrong) that the Air Force marked M44's were later production than the Army M43's, leading me to believe that german parts were used well into WWII.
Your thought and comment on this would be appreaciated.
