I have a couple of E. German SKS laminated stocks. They are beautiful stocks and I want to assemble both my SKS' onto them.

My problem is this. When I bought them they were stripped without any furniture. No gas tube or buttplate/pad.

I can live without the gas tube as one of those with the ventilated shrouds would do just as good. However I have a problem adapting a normal SKS buttplate.

On the E. German laminated stock, the buttplate apparently overlapes the butt of the rifle for about an inch and a half. No big deal except that the portion of the butt where the plate overlaps is unfinished and undersized such that it would look pretty bad if I just tacked a regular plate on the end of the butt.

Anyone have one of these stocks? How did you finish the butt. Preferably I would like to find the proper furniture to fit, but would also like to hear from someone that has a creative solution.

Thanks in advance.

Heya! Where'd you get the E-German laminated stocks from? http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

I picked up the E. German laminated stocks a couple of years ago. I got them from a guy who I believe fell into a few of them and decided to sell what he didn't want to keep.

I have long forgotten who they came from.

sorry

I was speaking to a friend of mine who is into collection German weapons. He stated that the E.German SKS was designed in the butt like the Mauser K98k rifle. The butt was covered by a stamped steel butt cap. He stated that you should try and see if this is the same configuration and may be able to use a reproduction K98k butt cap as a replacement.
