My good friend and fellow cruffler neilwest gave me this Ufixum Carcano awhile back as a gift with another two to use for parts. This one was only missing the mag. Also zouave gave me some of his parts so I'm slowly working on getting three functional rifles out of this. Thanks guys!! This one had a split stock which I pinned and glued it was split in a few places and I did three pins. It was also heavily beat up. It used to have a dark red gloss finish on it so I sanded out lightly, too many dings to get them all out-- if I had I wouldn't have any wood left. I refinished with a gloss Bombay Mahogany Polyurethane, two coats. Pretty neat little carbine. It is a Beretta, has the blued bolt so I think that's kings guard, dated 1942. Nice bore. Thanks alot Chief!

I think it turned out pretty nice. It was in great functioning condition but beat up wood. All the numbers match by the way. Kind of nice having a Beretta.

Redstar,
Neil is a class act!! That Carcano is a beauty. A Beretta, even?? Wonderful acquisition, I'd love one myself. Maybe soon.... :) I sure like that color.

You got that right! he certainly is.
Thanks for the compliments. I like it alot. that Bombay Mahogany is a real neat color and it matches the original finish of this particular rifle quite well.

Dear Redstar-Fantastic ,as usual! What brand Polyurethane did you use and how did you get it to dry quickly?I've used clear Polyurethane once before but have shied away due to dry time.Have you shot this baby yet? What kind of groupings,if so?:)-Gearhead

gearhead222, I use Minwax Polycoats. You have to make sure the stck is completely devoid of cosmo or it won't dry well. Usually it will dry in 24 hours if the stock is clean and dry.
Haven't shot it yet but will soon.

Thanx for the F/B!I guess that you also applied a VERY thin coat? That's the only way I could get some clearcoat Poly to dry on a Russian SKS I was working on.Thanx again!:)-Gearhead
