OH man,

I have to share this with someone who will understand. My mother decided on a new hobby - selling antiques with an in-law. They rented a booth and put up a civil war era bayonet with original scabbard with some furniture. She had it listed at $75 as she couldn't find a price. I tell her I want this weekend as she's telling me about it it but she is in town visiting me and cannot pull it from booth. So, long story short - bayo sells. Actual listed value of this particular bayonet and scabbard? $1800

Meanwhile she says she would have given it to me regardless of value. :( I was so looking forward to getting a photo of it and sharing it here. I'm the only gun/weapon guy in the immediately family. Her consolation - it was a yankee bayonet (no offense to northerners here) and it was better not to have a bayo that could have been used against "our southern men".

Ah well. It's only a thing. But it still sucks.

she probably sold it to a yankee....you know how us carpetbaggers are always looking for a good deal :D

I have found out that anything...I mean anything that has to do with the civil war, brings in the big bucks...if you ever watch the antique roadshow when someone brings in a CW piece, something you wouldn't even look at twice, it's in the hundreds and thousand dollar range...especially bayonets, or military accoutrements. have it associated with a soldier's name to it, and double or triple the price.

on a side note....I believe a good portion of the folks that go there, especially those old people, already know they have a rare or very expensive item and they just want to be on TV....look at some of their faces when they tell them, it doesn't phase them a bit...because they already know.

I've got an original bayonet for my original 1863 Type II Springfield rifle musket. Currently making do with a repro scabbard though. Thanks for the info. I was wondering what they were worth.:)
