Thanks

No, pre 89 AK-74s are extremely rare. I believe there was a thread on this in General Discussion. Ekie and Campybob chimed in. Probably less than 15-20 in the country. Some were Chinese prototypes and I forget the origin of the rest. All were brought in as samples and never imported in quantity.

good memory, panzer!

the only real shot a a semi auto ak-74 is the romanian, wum-2, cur-2 and sar-2 series (and romak-2, of course).

in full auto, there are very few rifles floating around in 5.45. "krinkov" has a pair of bulgarian krinkovs.

I don't remember that post of mine, guess I've learned a lot since january.I heard a while back there were 5 or 6 real pre bans in the country in time, but someone else recently said Mr york at AAOK had the only one?I didn't think the chinese ever used 5.45 themselves did they ?I thought they went just recently from the 7.62x39 to a 6mm round in a bull pup rifle? Those might've been just for export?Am I wrong again?:D

from what i remember the aaok prebans are romanian.. he had 2 one was standard (looks like sar but with laminate) the other is a folding stock krinkov.... with a 16 inch barrel.... it looks kind of creepy....

i have also heard the chinese rumor.... i dont know for sure.... but if the chinese ones exist, i suspect they were trying to make some 5.45s for the us civillian market.

Chinese Type 88 rifle is a 5.45 AKS74 semiauto that was either introduced at the 1989 Shot Show or was to be introdued at the 1990 Shot Show. In any case, a very few samples came in to the U.S. before the infamous George Bush Ban in 1989. I have heard as few as 3 and and as many as 6 made it in. They looked Russian down to the Cyrillic P on the sight leaf, except the handguards were sloid wood like the Bulgarian stuff. I have one brochure from Norinco and a photo of the cover of another brochure depicting these rifles.
