Ok Schuetzenman, I took your advise (along with a few others) and picked one up. It's marked 1902 it's a Gustaf, '96 with a threaded barrel (on the very end) It has the worst stock I have ever seen on a Swede, not that it's half as bad as my Mosin, or Turk, just not perfect (my last one looked unused). I was wondering if you or someone could answer a few questions.
What are the threads for? my last one didn't have any. Some kind of grenade launcher or something?
I paid $169.00 for it. Is that a good deal? (years ago I got one for $79)
Would you give $249 for a Huskavarna made one with a perfect stock? It's the shorter model (what model is that?)

First of all, congrats on the purchase. If you need another stock, let me know as a dealer I know has one for pretty cheap.
I believe the shorter Husky is a 38, please correct me Schuetz if I am wrong. The threaded barrel is for a wooden bullet shredder, flashhider, and I thought one more thing but can't recall, but it definitely wasn't a grenade launcher.

Cool, thanks for the offer smittylite. I really shouldn't complain about the stock, it's plenty nice, just not perfect (most of the ones I see look completely unused). I ordered a bayonet and sling from FAC today. A flash hider might be cool, any clue where to find them or any other Swede stuff?

I've seen the flashhiders at SOG and also on Ebay. You might also be able to find them at Numrich.
If you get a chance, post some pics of the Swede. I have a 1908 Gustaf on lay-away which I'll be paying off this week. Can't wait.

Well I see Simittylite has answered your post mike3acr. As he's said the threaded barrel is intended primarily for a Blank adapter that is actually a wooden bullet catcher / schreader. They also came up with a screw on flash hider to fit these threads.
The 96 rifles didn't originally come threaded. The short Husky you mention is a Model 38 as are all the shorther Swede rifles. One can find short Gustav M38's as well. Sometimes they are 96/38's. What makes a short rifle the 96/38 is if it was an early Gustav 96 that has been shortened to the 38 model length.
Me I personally wouldn't give $249 for a nice Husky as I don't like the short ones that much. IMO it's about $20 over priced.

You have taught me well, master. But much more must I learn before snatching the pebble from your hand.

WOW, those are some very pretty rifles, say if one has a C&R do you need to go through an FFL for one of those? I'm thinking of getting my C&R in Jan after i turn 21 and I would love to get me one of these rifles.

A C&R is all you need, the Swedes are on the list.
