View Full Version : An SKS is NOT an AK!!!!!!!!!!!!
So why is this forum on AK-47.net?
Sorry, but I just had to express my disapproval.
Please don't be *too* hard on me guys---I'm still family!!!!

The reasons are simple enough. The SKS and AK are closely tied by function, features, and role in history. The SKS and AK are often both owned by the same people, by that I mean, often someone who bothers to own an AK also owns an SKS. Myself and many others here can attest to that. There is no dedicated SKS sight that is not subject to closure due to political correctness. The SKS shares many of the design features of the AK. The trigger mechanism is different, but if you are familiar with the AK, field stripping an SKS will display the similarities in design. The SKS was the precursor to the AK and it's design philosophy contributed to the AK's. Sorry, there are too many features that the SKS and AK share to say one had no impact on the other's design. The SKS and AK are closely tied by history. First, the SKS was the primary infantry squad weapon with the AK as squad automatic weapon. The AK took over the role entirely as primary weapon. The SKS has been in every major cold-war flare-up. Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, the Hungarian Revolt, the Middle East, all featured the SKS prominantly. The SKS and AK share the same round and both are very, very popular rifles with the commie-gun loving groups out there. I love my Romanian SKS and my AK's. I think one compliments the other very nicely. The SKS needs a place that is easily found and supported so there will be a place people can go to ask questions, share information, and trade parts. It hurts nothing being here, by the way, since both are such integrated weapons, by function and by role in history.

I agree the SKS is an important part of history of commie weapons and belongs here.

I tried telling everyone that there was already an SKS Forum out there wehre we have already covered almost every topic you can imagine regarding the SKS, but they had to have one here too [url}http://hotboards.com/powerforum/pwrforum.exe?who=survivor[/url]
Ay-K and Survivor, the fact is a lot of us own both types of weapons. This forum is nice because it's convenient, and face it,there's a fair amount of discussion regarding SKS's here even without the forum. It would seem that discussion of SKS's on the other forums would be more of an irritation to you than having the topic more or less confined to one area. This way you won't be bothered with it if you don't care to read it,right?

I love my Russian SKS and my AK's but if I have a question about my SKS then it is right here which makes it convient.

You still should check out Survivor's site. It HAS covered quite a few things already, so you can get some of your questions answered just by reading the past postings there. He even directed me there a few months back when I was wrong about some of the laws reguarding that rifle (which are some of the strangest IMO). http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif http://hotboards.com/powerforum/pwrforum.exe?who=survivor

Anything less than an AK-47 is uncivilized!
Destroyer, took your suggestion and checked out Survivor's site, good suggestion.I'll be registering there ,probably tonight when I've got a few minutes to spare.
In my opinion the sks rifle is an unreliable piece of crap. But thats just my opinion. My brother had an sks that he would clean thorougly but it would still jam if you tried to rapid fire it like an ak-47. Id take an ak over an sks any day of the week.

the SKS is my favorite rifle.
i like the accuracy, heft of the stock,
i just plain love my rifle.
i think with a decent detachable magazine
and the right accessories the SKS is a great
complement to the Kalashnikov rifles.
i have acouple detachable 30 rnd mags and a
detachable 10 rnd magazine.
the SKS is my weapon of choice, along with afew
others in my modest aresenal.

I have a SKS that takes AK mags so which sight should it be on AK or SKS. This SKS is a garbage can. I don't care what you feed it it dumps them all. As for accuracy, you would be mine at 100 yards.

This wpuld have Here is the best reason. Mikhail Kalasnikov and Simonov were good friendsand Mikhail considers Simonov a outstanding weapon-maker. In fact, after reading Mikhail Kalasnikov's book,"From a strangers Doorstep to the Kremlin Gates", all the great Russian weapons designers got along well with each other and encouraged each other. This would be unheard of in the west. Welcome SKS!

I like the looks of those Russian SKSs with the folding blade bayonets. I don't own an SKS but I am happy to see a forum for the weapon here on AK47.net. The two weapons are so closely tied to each other that the firts decision most 1st time AK buyers find themselves contemplating is whether they want an SKS or whether or not they want to spend the extra money for an AK. Of course, if you get one of those nice Russian SKSs then you are going to have to pay about the same...$400 for a Russian SKS at last 2 gunshows I attended...and they both sold...oh my!!!

LAGunMan: Why not just move when the opportunity arises? I hear the Great Western Gunshow is moving to Vegas. I think that's a great idea. It'd be like the good ol' days. Gamble, buy a nice rifle, go to the whore house, go back to your room and sit around in your underwear watching TV, drinking beer, and admiring your new toys. Cripes, Vegas is a Man Show kinda town!! http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif Now all we need are women on trampolines. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

yeah the GW is going to vegas, im not much into the whorehouses =AIDS ALERT, and vegas isnt the same, its more like disneyland, but still a fun town, but moving to vegas is kinda out, i dont like the extreme heat and got all my connections and college here
i think if all the gunowners in Kalif would stay and fight then we wouldnt be so screwed
ill stay and fight till the roof caves in, and theres some BIG cracks in it now

Heheheheh... Anyway, yeah, youre right, the hookers in Vegas are probably a bad idea with today's biological realities. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif It's more the overall social climate I like there. Nothing like everyone being left to make their own choices. Little in the way of an overbearing government thinking it can make the choices better for you. http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif Anyway, best of luck to you LAGunMan, youre in the belly of the beast and it doesn't look good for you right now. Take care.

we could use some MORE gunowners to move to kalif --THIS YEAR, yes move here, or at least go do the motor voter BS and get a ballot to vote in the 2000 election in kalif
why you ask ? Swinestein is UP FOR RE-ELECTION, we got to get rid of this B**ch
and any other anti
if the demos can get the illegal voters to vote then i think we could get some pro-gunners to vote also
lets use there tricks to our advantage
alls fair in love, war and VOTING
