I never really wanted an SKS until I started posting on AK-47.net. I figured my AK shot the same caliber, so I didn't need another gun. But, my interest in military weaponry, even older bolt action guns, has been growing. I have the opportunity to purchase a NIB Chinese SKS for $200. I know that they USED to go for $85, but you can't find one for that price anymore. It has never been fired and has the underfolding bayonet. The owner has been a friend of my father for over 30 years, so I know he wouldn't lie about its condition or try to sell me a used/parts gun.
Is this a fair price for a new Chinese gun in the current market?

Yes $200.00 for a NIB Chi-com SKS with a spike bayonet is a good deal at the current
market prices, back in the mid 1980's they
sold for around $150 to $169 for brand new in
the box rifles in my area, so $200 sounds like a decent price to me.

I got an Chinese SKS like the one you described. I got mine for $150, but most Ive seen average between $175-$200 depending on the condition of the gun. I think that if the gun is in top condition, it is worth the money. I love mine.

I still see SKS rifles occasionally for under $200 in the classified ads. If you have anything like a Thrifty Nickle or Hot Off The Press (classified ad papers avalible for free) in your area, check them out.
Personally, I wouldn't pay that much for a stock SKS, even if it does have a bayonet. Then again, I already have one so that could make me prejudiced against todays inflated prices.
Now, if I could find an SKS-D/Sporter for under $300, especially private party, I would jump on it.
