I have a Norinco Type 56 SKS and I'm thinking of getting a scope mount for it. If you've good/bad experiences with the mount that you have, can you share it with me? I'm new to SKS and so excuse me if this is a basic question.
Also, how often should I remove the firing pin for cleaning? When I look at the bolt, it seems that the pin seems to go through what seems to be the extractor on the right hand side, am I looking at the right place?

I like the Red Star mount and their 5x scope. The mount allows for see through (to use iron sights) and must be fitted to the receiver. That is, you must file it to fit. I fitted one that I left so tight that the receiver cover pin must be tapped in with a plastic mallot. Granted, that's not the best for a combat rifle which should be easily field stripped, but for a scoped rifle, you want one with as little movement as possible. Mine came from CDNN with the scope for $22. The Sportsman Guide sells the same setup for about $60.

I've been thinking about getting a scope mount I've seen in the Cheaper Than Dirt catalog, which is built into a receiver cover (I think that is what the part is called). It's supposed to hold it's zero real well, and it has a pretty good price ($19.95 I think, maybe $10 more). Only reason I haven't already gone for it is I don't know how well it will fit with my Fiberforce stock.

Jay, that one sold by Cheaper Than Dirt! can be had for $5.00 w/out rings or $10 w/rings from CDNN. Check out the other thread on this forum.

Anyone know how well that receiver cover scope mount fits an SKS in a Fiberforce stock?

Does CDNN has a website? Can anyone comment if it holds its zero well?
