I JUST BOUGHT A NORINKO SKS AND I KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT THEM. I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS IF YOU ALL COULD PLEASE HELP ME OUT.
1- IS IT LEGAL TO CONVERT MY "FACTORY" SKS TO USE DETACHABLE 20 OR 30 ROUNG MAGAZINES ?
2- IF LEGAL, IS THERE A KIT THAT I NEED TO BUY ?
3- CAN FOLDING STOCKS BE INSTALLED ON THESE WEAPONS ?
I HAVE AN AK (MADDI) AND I LOVE IT BUT AFTER SHOOTING MY SKS, I COULD SEE WHERE I COULD GROW TO LIKE IT AS WELL. ACTUALLY AT 100 YARDS THE SKS WAS HOLDING A MUCH BETTER PATTERN THAN MY MADDI BUT I WOULD LIKE TO ADD SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT ABOVE TO THE RIFLE. THANK YOU ALL.

Holding a much better 'pattern' indeed! You have a battle rifle accuracy wise and not a spray-n-pray rifle. If you had a Chineese PLA Army Issue SKS- I found one- then you would have the real McCoy just exactly like it was for battle, sling and all! My SKS will shoot rings around the AK-47 for accuracy, I qualify to test them and have seen other pros do the same. I put a 30 rd detachable mag on mine-at first. It functions flawless but under combat conditions to stay alive or to fire, most of the time, you will have to hit the dirt and that is where the long magizine will get you into trouble. Keep it like it came. You can reload the original mag with stripper clips and your rifle will(should) function 100%. Don't waste your money on black plastic junk stocks either the wood ones will(overall) satisfy you. The SKS is a rugged, battle proven rifle just exactly as it is. After all are you or I smarter than Chairman Mao? Dadduck

I agree totally with dadduck. Adding a bunch of junk is defeating the purpose-AND IT COULD CAUSE YOU TO COMMIT A FELONY!! For example- if you attach a spike bayo to a Chinese SKS- you have committed a felony. But, it's perfectly legal to attach a bayo to a Russian SKS. NO FOLDERS!!! See www.recguns.com (http://www.recguns.com) Go to FAQ and FED. LAWS.

If you live in California, it is illegal to convert a 10 round fixed magazine on an SKS to a detachable magazine. In addition, after 1/1/00, it will be illegal to convert a 10 round fixed to a 20 round fixed.

Thank you all so much for the information. After listening to you all I have decided to leave the rifle as is. Actually I have already gotten use to using the stripper clips to reload and you might think Im joking but Its nearly as quick as loading a clip into my Maddi (10 round single stack). Once again thank you all so much.

Maddiman, Have you thought about a scope? You can usually fine scope, rings, and reciever cover sets for $30. Get one at a gun show so you can make sure that there is absolutely no slop in the reciever cover. I paid more and got a 3x9x40 short type scope. Use FMJ's and you can keep a 3" group at 250m.
