I became interested in how Chairman MAO thought sometime ago if you have not studied his 'many' faces to understand how he thought especially weapon wise, then surf around and check him out. I choose the SKS-and obtained a pristine PLA issue- because he knew it was the one which would be the most reliable. I discovered, after firing cases of ammo thru it, if it is kept clean and good FRESH Wolf or Cheetah ammo it will not fail. I have put it thru Police TACT tests- Rolling in mud, underwater swims(dirty water) Mississippi hot and Canada cold and it just keeps on shooting everytime. A man at 100yds will be hit with it, every shot, as well and with a 30 rd magazine, should the need arise, it will spit them out as well- accurately. The only modifications, which I believe in is a recoil buffer and a recoil compensator. Now I ask you are we smarter than Chairman Mao when the SKS was choosen as the battle rifle for his army? Are who In China now is as smart as him? Dadduck

IMO, the SKS is the most under-appreciated rifle there is. I sold my MINI a few years ago and got 2 SKS's- ChiCom Paratrooper and a Russian Tula. Both are 99%, great furniture, and will blast the hell out of anything that they're pointed at. Have never had a FTF. Put a red dot on the Chinese and am getting some tight groups. They are easy to clean and fun to play with.

You are on the money as well. I made a descovery which you might want to consider It turned out to be a big flame one time but I want to pass it along. It concerns the use of oil on the gas operating rod, which is the heart of the whole operation. The Manual says use it but some people seem to disagree(I could have said some people think they are smarter than Chairman Mao but I didn't) I have some gun oil which I used as a TACT Officer I used it on the M-60 and my BDL .308 sniper rifle. It is called 'PRO LUBE' and is designed for our Military and NATO It states on the can it is for small arms and automatic weapons and is the best I have ever seen....anyway I descovered that the gas piston, IF put up dry will clog up faster than if a small amount of this type oil is put on the piston. This stuff is manf. in Berkeley, Mo 63132 by LHB Industries if you are interested. If you obtain some just remember to squirt some on a cotton Q-tip and apply. This oil won't get hard even under full auto fire and works perfect to keep the gas piston slipping back and forth in your SKS. I had a 1952 Tula but a collector wanted it worse than me so I sold it and found a pristine PLA Issue screwed in barrel, milled reciever and beautiful stock, all # match and I ordered spare parts from Tapco to keep it tapping for a long time. Mine shoots real good groups with Cheetah ammo and good enough with Wolf. I would not be afraid, with Cheetah ammo, to go for a head shot at 100yds maybe a little further. Some shooters try to extend the range which I think is 200 yds , considering bullet drop and energy down range. Ask for the oil and specify the order # SP0450-98-F-0671

dadduck- thanks for the info. I used MP-7 cleaner and lube for awhile but I've been using Mobil-1 synthetic as a lube on my aw's and my Glocks and they stay very slick. I spray choke and carb cleaner for the piston tube and other areas (trigger group). I'll give your stuff a shot first chance I get.
Have a good one--Barry
