I have heard all positive reviews of this rifle, Oly is a good name in ARs. You won't be disappointed.
is a fine little carbine. Lesley (girl with guns) :D has one and it runs just fine. She keeps it clean and does not go for weeks in a rain forest so the lack of chrome makes no diffirence.
Rew;)

avoid it like the plague. that is unless you want to have the barrel fall off. which did happen to an ar15.com member.

The barrel fell off? Was it loose from the factory? I admit that I very rarely check for a loose barrel....take that back, when I get any new rifle, I check the barrel. I bought a Remington 597 in .17HMR that had a loose barrel. After tightening up the clamp it is a fine shooter. I find it hard to believe that Olympic let one out with a loose barrel, but they are human. On the other hand, firearms manufacturers need to be above human due to the product that they sell.
By the way, I have an Oly Plinker and am very happy with it.

Nope, that was an Oly arms pistol caliber upper setup - not a plinker .223 complete rifle. There was some confusion as to whether it was a complete upper from olympic arms, or put together by the guy that sold it.
Anyway, the barrel can't fall off on a gas-operated AR, since the gas tube won't allow the barrel nut to unscrew, even if it's undertorqued, which was apparently the case on the pistol cal upper over on AR15.com.
Again in the case of the ar15.com story, someone had installed a free-float handguard, which was probably aftermarket, even if the upper itself was original Oly factory, and I'd put the blame for not properly securing the barrel nut on the nut who installed the free float handguard (which replaces the original barrel nut with one threaded to mount and support the free-float).

Thank you for clearing up another misconception about ARs!!!! I wish people would verify their story before flaming someone or something.

i own one of the plinker model ARs. i have had two stopages in about 1500 rounds. both were split cases that failed to extract. other than that the rifle is tip top.
thanks

FAC has the best prices anywhere on the Plinker. Their latest catalogue lists then at $499!!!!!!! Not bad for an AR!

then thats more than one. this particular rifle he had just loaded it and was about to shoot them the upper broke complete in half just behind the barrel extension. and it was on oly plinker model NOT a pistol. and there was no free float handguard it was the stock hand guards the guy posted the pics i saw them myself. i'm not flaming oly but their rifle is a pos. i remember the posting of another guy who lived down the street from them who bought one of the 1st ones to come out. hot gases in his face when he fired it!. for $500 with some care full shopping you can build an ar15 like the plinker out of quality parts.

Most unusual, kernal - I must have missed the blown-up plinker on arfcom, and only seen the one on the pistol caliber upper.
I've seen more than one cast lower receiver break, usually due to a fault in the casting - several Hesses and one Olympic. But this is the first I've ever heard of an upper breaking, cast or forged.

I had a plinker and had nothing but problems with it. I took Olympic up on the refund. Mine did nothing but jam. I tryed all types of amo and different mags. I don't know if I got a bad one or what.
