Why does my Romak III fail to feed a round occasionally? Usually a round will hang up on the bottom lip of the barrel, has anyone had any similar problems with their romak?

are you tapping your mags before you insert them into the rifle? I always tap my mags, that might help.

Does the "Lip" come up above the top of your magazines?
Try dremmeling it down a bit. If the rounds are just hanging on the ramp, polish the ramp with some light rubbing compound on a dremmel buffing wheel. I had to do that to my frankenfal to get it to feed properly.

Its not hanging on the feed lip, it is actually hanging up on the very edge of the barrel right at the chamber. The tip of the bullet catches the inside rim of the chamber and stops.

Maybe a mag problem then. Try VERY lightly oiling the inside walls
of your mag. This should prevent any binding of the follower (If that is what's happening) I've never had a problem like your's. The only problem I've had is with a G-tec. FCG where the disconector would not grab the hammer thus having the hammer follow the bolt forward. Luckily I had no slam fires!

Are you using FMJ or SP ammo? I've had Soft Points catch and actually dig into the soft point itself. I have solved the problem by sticking to FMJ. I haven't had one stick since.

its all jacketed surplus. At first the rifle would not feed any of the cartridges except by hand and i gently tapped the lip down and rounded it and it improved to about 99 percent, but being an AK fan, I expect 100% all of the time or its unacceptable. maybe I am too pickey?

The problem with the Romak is the magazines, the front stub is too high on the magazines therefore the magazines sit too low and the tip of the bullet hits the rim of the barrel, this has been corrected.

No I was referring to the post about mine which is this post. I don't know of the others. I must say it is now an exceptional deal at the prices that they are going for now. Any problem can be corrected.

Did you alter the mag lips at the front? or the mag catch? How did you fix this problem? I had the same problem for the first 15 rounds, but after that it started wotking fine. But I am curious as to how you fixed it . I have some mags I haven't used yet and may encounter this again.

When I first got mine it was strictly a hand feed and that was the best that I could do. What I did is to modify magazines. The front stub i dremeled down on top and spot welded on the bottom to bring it into the up position and now the rounds feed into the barrel instead of hitting the edge of the barrel.

Thanks for the info. I have had the same problem with mags for other rifles as well, especially AR15.
Some people tend to slam them into the well , and if the bolt is closed this seems to flatten the mag lips down at the front causing an improper angle and subsequent feeding problems. Easily fixed by bending them back up a little and inserting them properly from then on. I did this with my second 5 round romak mag and it feeds fine now.
However I think they should fit better, and your solution should be a permanent one. I found that the ten round mag fit much tighter and worked fine as is.
Thanks for sharing your info.

Are you using the 5 rounder or 10 round mag? I have had like problem using the cut 5 round mag.

this was with the 10 rounder, I am now having a ball shooting with this rifle being that it now works.
