You might want to try the forums at www.ar15.com. I think that I have seen threads about this there. Also if you are looking for buget/starter AR-15 take a look at the DPMS pantherlite 16. Swat magazine gave this model a very good review a couple of months ago. Hope this helps.

1911s4ever,

I was at the same crossroad as you. Wanted a AR but did not want to spend the big bucks... I was thinking about the Oly plinker. It probably would have served me fine. I figured $530 for a plinker. The way I looked at it was I spend $530 and have an entry level gun. If you look at kits you can build just about anything you want for under $600. I felt for a few dollars more I had a nicer/ better AR. All you need is a upper kit (appr $450) and whatever lower you want (appr $100-120). And one hour of your time. No special tools required. I got USGI mags at a fun show for $10 each..
I feel that the AR I built will have better resale value than if I bought a plinker. Plus I gained much knowledge in building one. Build one, it's a no brainer!!!!
