I did a search on yahoo for svd info and man you would not believe the trash I found on snipercountry.com. This one guy asked where he could get a SVD and the replies started to roll, such as the following. Save your money the SVD is a toy and won't shoot any better then 3 or 4 inch groups at 100 yds etc, what a bunch of boneheads and thats what I mean by too blind to see, can't see the forest for the trees. I wanted to post a reply but couldn't find where to register on the stupid site. Look I love most guns ever made and have no problem with bolt actions and there are some that I really love but come on there is more to life then RemingChester/Ruger when it comes to accuracy. I have shot one round holes with bolt actions and I still own one that will shoot 11 thousands center to center and I have had M1A's that would shoot one holers not much bigger then that but give me a semi auto anytime over a 100 plus year old design, something with quick followup shots and still accurate.

All I do is shoot and collect, so I'm not going to get into the pros/cons, but:

Given the choice between a Russian (not Norinco) SVD and a SAKO TRG-42 with all the trimmings, I'd be hard pressed to decide.

I collect and shoot as well and the sako trg is as fine a bolt action as you can get, I happen to own a 308 norinco and as of yet I have not shot my reloaded match ammo in it yet but I am willing to bet that it is going to shoot well inside a 1/2 inch or less. As soon as I do get the chance to shoot my handloads I will post results. I have shot with chinese surplus ammo and it has already shot well within 1 1/4 inch so I don't have far to go!! I love bolts but semi autos are the nuts in my book from FAL's to SKS's, I'll take it. I would like to put on competition of semi auto VS. Bolt action and I am willing to bet that the bolt action just can't keep up, and don't misunderstand I am talking in every different strength and weakness considered that the bolt is going to lose hands down every time. Sometimes the bolt will be more accurate and still will lose because of the fact that it is over a 100 year old design and in todays environment, the bolt just can't keep up!!

I am curious to know why you don't like the Norinco, considering its pretty much the only game in town, only about 200 or less original russians means that only the very select is ever going to own anything but a Norinco. The Norinco is an excellent rifle baring the finish which leaves something to be desired but for the price that is acceptable, You should know alittle something about what you are speaking about before you judge. For instance, I know bolts and have shot benchrest rifles as well as bolt action snipers and I do know the potential.
