My last time out at the range, the AK was fine. Bu this time it is not hitting the firing pin as hard every 5th or 6th round. Ie: looking at the bullet it had the pin mark
but not fired, but the ones that did fire had deeper pin marks.. Anybody got any ideas? Is it the ammo ?? or the spring, kinda of lost on this.

What kind of ammo? Have you used this ammo before? Can you try another brand of ammo? Is the gun clean? Have you got a spare hammer spring or firing pin to try? Are you using diffrent mags?
------------------
When someone says "you won't need a gun", take at least 2 and plenty of ammo.
I may also have the solution for you. This was happening to me, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong with my gun. Here was the answer--a primer had traveled through the back of the bolt, up the firing pin, and was sometimes lodging itself partially in the hole in the bolt facing that the firing pin goes through to contact the bullet primer. I took the bolt apart, and cleaned the primer out, and the gun ran fine. It was a pisser trying to figure it out though.

Yea it is a box of a 1000 I got from cableas, yes it is cleaned ( first thing thought of) , I tried some remington 7.62 and it still doing the same thing, I had extra parts here so I replaced the hammer spring and the bolt spring but didn't effect it. Really strange what it is doing. There are not any gumsmiths that have a remote clue around here, so that is why I am asking you guys.
i ve had this happen once or twice also
i agree the first thing u should do is clean
the bolt and carrier real good
and lube that fucker up
it has nappened to me, and also to my friend
with the same ammo, so maybe the ammo could be messed up too

1) What model and manufacturer is your gun. Is it an AK47, an AKM, or what?
2)Are your 5th & 6th stoppages occurring at the end of a full auto burst, or is it happening in sermi auto fire as well?

OK I fianlly figured out what it was, the firing pin had some burs on it for some reason. So I wet sand them down and now it is working fine. But since I have had this problem I am worried on working on it, since nobody are here will touch it. What is the best book on the break and detail of these guns , and I mean the best with pictures and all kinds of good details.

Glad you got it working again. My favorite AK book is Edward Ezell's "The AK47 Story". Ezell starts with a history of thr Russian armament history, includes a biography of Kalashnikov, and goes through all the technical details of the rifle in all its various models. The only thing the book is light on is specific info on the AK74. At the time it was published (1986) we didn't have as much info on the 5.45 versions as we do now. There are diagrams of the breakdowns on both the AK47 and AKM. Stackpole Books is the publisher, and my understanding is that the book is still in print.
