sorry, hope u guys dont mind me posting a question here, i know the Mauser isnt an AK..but u guys seem to have most of the answers:-)

i have a Mitchell Arms Yugo M48 mauser. my rifle is suffering from a jamming problem.

after i shoot the rifle, i have a real hard time pulling the bolt handle up and back. i bought this rifle NEW unissued two years ago and finally shot it last week. before shooting, i totally stripped and lubed the rifle...including stripping/lubing the bolt assembly (which was packed in grease).

according the info off the net...this isnt an isolated problem.
any suggestions?

thanks in advance,
akjunkie

I had a similar problem with my nagant sniper and using different ammo fixed it. If you are using 8mm surplus, try one box of off the shelf federal or the like.

If you can find it I'd say try the Yugoslavian 8X57 ammo.

Also since you bought it in unissued condition it may need breaking in. I mean shoot it to loosen it up. I've heard people having a problem and shooting it for awhile and them loosening up. I have 6 Yugoslavian Mausers but only shoot one. I've not had that problem with it though.

I'd be careful. Excessive headspace can cause what you describe. Buddy of mine had it happen with a SMLE.

Do you have the fired cartridges? With my buddy's SMLE the case shoulder had been fire-formed so far forward that it was obvious that headspace was excessive. If problem is excessive pressure, that should show as flattened primers.

Anyway, excessive headspace can be very dangerous. If there's a smith in your area with an 8mm NO GO or FIELD gauge I'd have it checked out.
