Can someone tell me the exact changes made to the firing pin to make it spring loaded?
Does this involve turning the steel to make a spring slip over it? And are there any changes to the bolt involved?
Any info is appreciated.

Slayer_Dragun,
Which rifle are you talking about? Are you having a problem with slam fire?
OT; (Are you AKA the "dragun slayer"....do you ride a Magna?)
(ie: can you harness the power of the mighty V-four?)

I have had no problems other than a feeding problem that has already been fixed .
I was just curious as to what was done and also if the romanian ssg's needed the fix. I have been told now though that the fix is just for svd's.
Still curious as to what is done though.
Thanks for the reply.
Oh BTW, slayer_dragun roughly translates to Cool rifle, nice drag, ect.

Just to inform you as to why the firing pin mod is necessary. First it is usually only needed for the 308 model because of soft primers which are usually found in commercial match ammo or if you reload you must use military style hardened primers such as the ones made by CCI primers and then test the primers with a dummy cartridge with a live primer and no powder, I do this and chamber a round 10 or 20 times from the magazine to see if the primer will dent with firing pin when loaded from the magazine, match primers will go off on the second chambering and that is not good. The reason that the 762x54r is usually not a problem is because reloading match ammo for the 762x54r is not easy being that there are not a lot of bullets made in the .310 diameter hence only military ammo is usually used! The bottom line is if you don't have the mod or even if you do then make sure you use CCI or comparable type primers. Special Note*** I have the firing pin mod on my NDM 86 and the soft match primers still indent substantially and I would recommend that anyone with an NDM 86 not use the soft primers in any case what so ever!!! AND as for your question, the bolt rear is drilled out and a hole is drilled into the firing pin and the top of the spring is hooked and stuck thru the hole in the firing pin and then inserted into the bolt, being that there is no end on the firing pin to accomadate the firing pin spring.

Thank you!
That is exactly what I wanted to know .
Mine is a romanian 7.62x54r , but I was told that a spring loaded pin is best anyway.

It is. BUT if you use milsurp ammo or Russian ammo you should have no problems. Just be careful of U.S. commercial(and maybe S&B).

be aware that most of the milsurp stuff out there is copper over steel jacket. Actually there are a few sources for .310 & .311
bullets out there.

And there's a problem with that? No flame intended but we're talking about a comblock rifle with a chrome lined bore made for this stuff.

This all stems from the SVD board so I'm trying to get everyone over here and it seems to be working.
We are the one's that perform the conversion on all the SVD's. There have been problems with both the .308 and the 54r rifles. Basicall out of battery slam fires.
The SVD is the only one this is performed on as I do have the original Russian SLFP assemblies. The CDNN fix is an abomination with many failures since the fix results in more problems. Fortier of SGN, we have done all his rifles.
There is in fact some problems with the design and the opportunity to import them in that manner was passed up untimately due to cost. Their newer rifles over there all have the SLFP's assembly now.
All the best.

Can you be more specific about the problems that have occured as a direct result of the CDNN SLFP conversion?
