I am still looking for input on what countries produce the best or better 7.62x54r LPS ammo?

MY experience on the Comm bloc!

TEst rifle is the IZmesh Tiger SVD and Finland M39

Both rifle loves the HUngarian Factory 21 LPS! COmes in 440 rds spam tin .. ammo is grey! and that is my choice of the surplus ammo! although the NOrma ammo shoots the best but the price is way out of my league ! I also reload on NOrma brass, 150 grain .311 bullet, IMR 4895 powder!with CCI #34 primers!

here are the chronograph data I got ! these are mean velocity out of 5 shots!

Test gun - Izmesh Tiger Carbine SVD 20" barrel!
hungarian code 21 148grain LPS 2704 fps
Russian 148 grain LPS 2745fps
S& B 180 grain soft point 2548fps
Norma 180 grain 2723 fps

Test Rifle - Finland Moisin Nagant M39
Hungarian code 21 148 grain LPS 2923 fps
Wolf 148 grain Non corrosive 2790 fps
Yugo military 148 grain 2594 fps
Russian military 148 LPS 2785 fps

The Yugo ammo seems to chrono lower than all others! that is consistant on their 8mm Mauser and 7.62x39mm!

DaveC,
Thanks a ton, thatkind of information is invaluable, and saves a bunch of time and money if I were to sort thru all the comm-blok ammo out there. That plus I don't have a chronograph. I did notice tighter groupings with czech ammo(148gr), and not so great goups with wolf and albanian. Hungarian sounds like the ticket. Now that I don't have to find a good ammo, I can start working on longer range shooting (so far I'm working on 300m).
Once again, THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR RESEARCH.

my pleasure Tom

A lot of people said good things about the Czech LPS! are the ones you shoot has a silver tip on it??? Where can you find those cheap???

My experience with the HUngarain have been good and I am staying with that for my Nagant and Druganov,

Besides can get it cheap from AImsruplus.

Dave, I also found Czech silver tip (although I havn't gotten any yet), from SOG, it goes for 'bout $90 for 780 rounds. They advertise manufacture dates ranging from 1960's to 1980's.
I just ordered 2200 rnds of Hungarian so the Czech might have to wait. I'll let you know how the Hungarian shoots for me, it should get here about the same time as my new 8x42PSO! It will be nice to be able to see targets up close, even 300m with the 4x is tough.
