Default Fiocchi .22 ammo?

Ran across an article on Gun-Tests.com that talked about them testing 33 types of rimfire ammo from Lapua to bulk Remington and shooting them in three different guns.

Surprisingly the one they picked as the overall winner was Fiocchi....hell I didn't even know they made .22 ammo! Not surprising about the test was CCI Green Tag being one of the worst shooters..heh heh could have told them that myself!

Anyway just curious if anyone had ever shot it or had even seen it? I can certainly vouch for their bigger calibers, if the .22 is as good as the other calibers, I will definately want to try some.

Question

Why test ammo no longer available?

Thanks for the link Poodleshooter, looks like they are out of stock on everything but Super Match, so either they are very popular or they are going out of production.

Awp I never really looked at the publication date, it might have been an old article!

Default Fiocchi MAXAC is not the best fodder for a Target Pistol

The Fiocchi MAXAC (Lot# 4304031 CIP 007) I once used in pistol training has a very loud report (uncomfortable even with ear protection) and the scores are uneven. It sounds like a CF round!

Sometimes it shoots four rounds straight in the 10th ring and one in the 9th, with a Walther P22 5" pistol, offhand @ 25m C50 Standard Pistol target, and the next moment it sprays like a shotgun.

Then I tried it with a Hammerli 280. Ten shots in the 10th ring. Then the next two magazines went all over the place.

Using the Neil Jones .22 RFG tool, I measured the rim size in a box of fifty and found:

11 rounds measuring 0

14 rounds measuring 1

21 rounds measuring 2

and 4 rounds measuring 2.5

With the Hammerli, the #2 (the majority) shot terribly while #1 shot single-hole groups.

Both #0 and # 2.5 shot one in the 10th rind and the rest were flyers!

So, out a box of 50 only 14 rounds were accurate with a top-of the line pistol.

I haven't used it in a rifle, yet.

My dad swears the best .22LR he ever used was Fiocchi hollow point, at least he seems to recall it was Fiocchi. I've never been able to find anything but their round nose target stuff. Anyone ever shoot any HP and do you know where I can find a few boxes? TIA

Default Richard,

Having used the Fiocchi Expansive (HP) Lot# 2307001, in the past (I am left with just two boxes, which are in my collection), I can attest that they were very accurate and cheap.

Unfortunately, according to Fiocchi's online list of current rimfire offerings, the HP version seems to have been dropped.

Here is the link.

http://www.fiocchigfl.com/prodotti/Cal22.htm

The only Fiocchi rimfire ammo importer in the States does not list it, either.

Here is the link.

http://www.22ammo.com/fiocchi.html

I will keep looking. If I find any I will let you know from these board.

It's amazing how one manufacturer can be so "hit or miss" (pun intended) on different types of ammo.
