I just tried my first box of Eley target ammo. What is the propellant in that stuff. It leaves the strangest after smell when it is fired. I mean it really stinks. Has anyone ever noticed this? What makes that smell? By the way, it is good ammo and shoots very well in most of my guns.

I don't know what it is but I have always heard it's the priming compound.

ELY priming does smell and is supposed to be a better compound. Don't know if its better but its smelly.

I also found the ammo to be a bit on the dirty side as well...and yes they sure do stink.
