So Savage is bringing out a bolt gun in 5.7x28......

    unfortunately it is absolutely hideous.

edited out the pic because savage won't show it here, anyway they're making the 25 walking varminter and 25 lv-t in 5.7x28

It looks like a bloodly mossberg bolt action shotgun from the 50's. I was thinking of popping on one of these, but now that I've seen them I'm not so sure.

    Good concept, poor execution.

I honestly would find no use for a bolt gun in that caliber. Too anemic. Semi-auto on the other hand...
Trying to get on the no fly list, one post at a time.

    I've seen worse...much worse.

5.45x39 sure would be nice of them even if there's no "match grade" ammo out there.

Savage is offering it in their Model 25 Walking Varminter or Model 25 LV-T. I'd be curious to know what the long-range performance was like compared to other calibers.

I don't know, the 25 lv-t doesn't look so bad with that laminated stock.

I agree, I only looked at the walking varminter before I posted, the thumbhole definatly improves the profile over that synthetic stock. Depending on how much more it costs over the other one I may just pop on it.

I would like it a whole lot better if it had iron sights, or peep sights, on it. I won't buy a rifle that doesn't have those. I know most rifles now are set up for scopes only, but I like the idea of having iron sights as backups if needed.

Same reason I only own one bolt gun (Savage 10FP in .308) that lacks iron sights. I like knowing if I fall and break the optic, or for whatever reason the optic fails, there will be back up sights to still help me get the job done. Its also the biggest reason I prefer my PSL for hunting out here, and because it weighs about 5 pounds less than the Savage.

    +1, i liked the look.

the price, otoh, i wasnt too fond of. granted, im sure that was only msrp and street price will be much lower, but a 4 round magazine? for those tiny little cartridges? thats not gonna change when it hits the street, and its a pretty depressing specification, imo. should be able to get at least 6-8 of those in there and still not have th magazine extend below the stock.

Am I misunderstanding, or do you have a line on a 5.45 Savage?

I agree, they're going to run around $400 for the synthetic version, last cabela's flyer I got had Remington 700's in .223 with scope for $449, which will do alot more than a 5.7 will and doesn't look retarded. The reason for the mag capacity is because it's intended for a hunting rifle, which I think is the wrong market for such a piece, if anything it should be a heavy barreled compact precision rifle.

send me a review on that, screw the 5.7 if I can get a 5.45 (ok, maybe not, but I think the 5.45 will come first)
