    Handguard Suggestions and Questions

Hello, all. I'm relatively new to firearms and definitely new to the world of AKs. I completed a Saiga 7.62 conversion a few months ago and love it even more. I love it so much that I realize I need to do something about the heat because I'm often putting through 120 rounds+ at the range with it.

Through the reviews I've looked at, it seems that the Midwest Industries handguard does very well with heat dissipation. I'm eyeing that one, but is there another that does better? Or one that does just as well that costs a little less?

Also on the Midwest Industries site, they have three models. The third one is for Saigas without the front handguard cap, which is what I assume I'll be getting. I do like the look of the handguard caps, though, as opposed to the free floating look. If I wanted the capped look for my Saiga, I believe I have to get a lower handguard retainer and a new gas block with the cap, is that correct?

A guy on the Saiga12 forum sells (or used to sell???) a retrofit lower handguard retainer that allowed the user to add real AK style handguards to a Saiga rifle without having to remove the front sight & gas block to install one. Essentially, it was a retainer that was nearly cut in half, attached to the rifle, and held together with a very small phillips screw. I had one on a long barreled Saiga I used to own, and it held the RPK style lower handguard just fine and never came loose while firing the rifle.

I believe the members name was Dinzag or Dinzig. Something like that. Its been ages since i've been to the Saiga-12 forums so I dont even know if he is still around or still making the part im talking about.

Dinzag! Of course! And, yes, there's the part. Wow, $70 for it. Carolina Shooters has a cheaper version for $50, but they're out. It looks like I'm on the right path for this, though, thanks.

    Hello,

I recently made a review of my arsenal converted saiga 7,62x39 with Mako hand guards. You can find that review on the link below

    http://www.gunsnet.net/showthread.ph...Arsenal-SGL-21

If you need conversion parts for the saiga to fit the hand guards then dinzag is the way to go for painless install.

BTW, I have a complete set of Arsenal furniture with nato length stock and 2-stage trigger for sale

    Good luck
