    Still wondering about the odd.

Yes the cleaning rod is missing.

Yes the wood isn''t original, but nice anyway.

Looks like a fairly nice 1999 model.

    Can you say, "third pin"?

I guess I was so set that it was an "SAR-1" that I missed the third pin. I also misread the date which appears to be "03". Civilian and training SAR-1s were marked "2003" so I am guessing this is a real deal AKM used for military that has graduated basic training.

As to how it found it's way back to the former land of shall not be infringed is a good question.

Honestly this is the first "3 pin" SAR marked rifle that I have ever seen!

Too bad our government doesn't believe in the supreme law of the land!!!!

I wonder if that third pin was added here as is appears to be a different color than the other two pins that match.

    Winner!

Sounds to me like the "Marine sniper" who traded it in has a little explaining to do. Sad to see a nice SAR like that get cut in half.

I talked to the guy who listed it... after I explained the issue, he told me the rifle was legal because although it has the third pin... it has no other FA parts and only fires in semi auto. I told him he should take down the listing and do a little more research before putting the rifle up for sale, semi auto or not... third pin is a no go. He thanked me and told me he'd look in to it.

As I said, too bad we don't have a law protecting our rights to own that piece of metal and wood!

I have many times thought about cutting the head off an axis pin and welding or gluing it on to make it look like there is a third pin just to see if I hear the steady beat of helicopter blades after posting pictures. No hole drilled, only fake pieces glued on.

I did talk to my attorney about taking on ATF and full auto, but a month later can still hear them laughing.

Thought there was talk about some early Sar's that had shipped with this feature? Was there a recall this guy could have missed?

I totally missed that! Wooooops! Can you say club fed?

Good on you for talking to the guy but he's stubborn - it's still up.

Hmmm, a FA AK for $600. No, I won't go there

I'm not going to lie... I drooled for a second and thought: "If this auction had a buy it now... and I could make it dissappear..." Then I thought better of it. lol

I keep remember my lawyer laughing and decided that as much as I would love that SAR-1, it isn't worth it at this point in my life.

I do not remember that being an issue with the SAR series (not that it couldn't of happened) but considering how easy it is to drill 2 holes and cut a small channel in the internal rail I would bet it's most likely an illegal stateside conversion.

this isn't an early sar anyway, 03 was the last year of production.

The auction description does say "This rifle is one he learned to assmeble, disassemble convert to what he wanted it to be"

I would say a rifle can't be anymore "assmebled" then that.

What in the hell???!!! An evil third pin, plus there is no way that was brought back from the sand box. This smells like a setup!

Actually from what is known, 03 was the last year they were allowed to be imported into the United States of Shall Not Be Infringed. There is a very good chance they are still in standard production in Romania.

I had a SAR that was dated 2004, I thought 04 was the last year they came in?

I wish the old gunsnet posts were still up, I'm pretty sure they announced no more in 03. Maybe a few slipped in late?
