    PPS-43c Ammo

Has anyone tried the new surplus Bulgarian 7.62x25 ammo in their PPS43?
I just bought an 800 round tin and I would like to hear any range reports.

They say surplus if loaded too hot will cause problems with opening the action too soon, also if the primer is too hard you can damage the firing pin. I shot some polish 762x35 out of mine, the ejected cases all looked like a straight wall case with a slight curled over lip which lead me to believe the Polish ammo was too hot for the rifle. In the limited shooting (140rds) I noticed no issues with the firing pin. I've since bought S&B 762x25 and have gone to using that exclusively.

I'd shoot some and see what the ejected cases look like but in the long run I think it's best to buy commercial ammo. From what I gather (found out after I bought mine) is during the conversion a good part of the underside of the bolt was lost in the conversion (the open bolt catches) which resulted in a lighter bolt that doesn't have the mass to work with much of the hotter surplus ammo.

I'll keep the surplus around for back up ammo, and use S&B for everyday. I'm also installing a Blackjack buffer to improve reliability.

I've been using Romy ammo in mine without a hitch.

Do you have a source for the Romy ammo?

Is there any way to add some lead ballast to the bolt?

This is coming from someone who has no knowledge of this fine firearm!

You would be better off using a stronger spring.

Would a stronger spring cause cycling problems with other ammo(i.e. commercial or weaker surplus)?

Since it's a blow-back operated bolt, your action will close tighter, that should improve reliability. If the spring is too strong, you can cut a few coils off until it functions reliably. The main problem I had with ammo was thick primers, and the bolt not closing tight enough when the bolt face got dirty. I think a better buffer will solve any issues; the heavier spring is a last resort.
