Rare 1836 Colt revolver draws record price of nearly $1 million

It might not be the best choice for a modern-day gun fight, but as a collector's item a rare 1836 Colt revolver in exceptional condition has no challengers.

The Holster Model No. 5 Paterson revolver from the Al Cali Collection has sold for $977,500 at auction in Dallas, setting a world-record price for a single firearm.

Wow. Few enough Patterson Colts. Fewer still in that condition. Yet fewer with fancy grips and all the trimmings. And one with a loading lever? That's the first I've heard of with one (could that have been a later mod?).

Sounds like a million dollar gun to me... if you have that kind of scratch, anyway. Only seen about three of the Patterson-era Colts in my life (all in museum collections), I think he only made a few hundred before his concern folded, and I can't imagine too many of them survived. This one has to be absolutley one of a kind.
