Any of you guys have a Mossberg 4x4?

I ask because this morning I looked at one in 25-06, I liked it, but don't know anyone who shoots one.

    Anybody?

It's Mossberg's nicer bolt rifle, a step up from the ATR.

.25-06, I think that would make a great deer rifle for my 14 year old. He's not real keen on the idea of inheriting my beat up old 30-30.

Damn kids today are a lot pickier than I was back in the day.

I don't know a darn thing about hunting calibers, but I'm real big on common calibers. Would your kid like a new 30-30 or perhaps a lever action 357/44 mag?

In the end, you and your son will have to decide.

Let us know what you choose, and best of luck.

He's got his heart set on a bolt gun, thinks he wants a "sniper rifle".

As for ammo availability, I can get 25-06 at Walmart around here, plus any gun store.

Is 25-06 not common in your parts?

Granted you don't hear it talked about like 308, 270, or 30-06. But if Walmart stocks it someone is shooting it.

I've always wanted one, so getting the kid one is a good excuse.

Ironically, those are the three calibers I will choose from if I ever get a high powered rifle.

Understandable, 3 great ones. I've just got a hankering for a 25-06 in my head and well, you know how that goes.

The calibers I don't get, unless you have a real need, are the magnums and other big bores. Ugh, I don't need the abuse.
