Seriously, other than bragging rights that you own a ".50BMG"...

It seems that a .338 rifle is more affordable, which leaves more of a budget for scope/rings/ammo.

I sold my Bushmaster 50BMG rifle/Leupold/Rings/BORS sight when I needed to raise cash to finance my property purchase on the river... I thought I'd be able to buy it back in the future.

But, for the $6500 I had into the set up... I'm thinking I could get a heck of a lot more bang for the buck with a .338 Laupa rifle.

I have no idea as I've never researched it... but how expensive is .338 ammo compared to 50BMG? All the 50 ammo I had was surplus...

any of the 338 ammo ive seen was much more expensive than the 50. last trip to cabellas revealed a box of 20 338 going for $125, while a box of 10 bmgs were around $45

even the 338 brass ive been seeing was well over $2 a pc. this is strictly a reloading rifle for me.

    Savage Model 110 FCP

    Sako TRG-42

    Weatherby Mark V Accumark

    Hope this helps!

http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/index....ammo-338-lapua Ammunition To Go web site link. Low of 54 bucks for Privi Partisan made to a high of 128 bucks for Remington Secnar rounds. Crap that's high!

http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/253...num-box-of-100 link to brass at Midway. $279.99 for 100 Lapua cases for reloading. http://www.midwayusa.com/find?&newca...mensionid=5954 Link to their selection page for all brands of Lapua brass.

Truely it seems to be as expensive or more so than the .50 BMG to operate.

It looks like the Model 700 SPS Tactical is only offered in .223 or .308.

Weatherby in .338 Lapua is $2300, but if you look at the ballistics, .340 Weatherby Mag is the ballistic twin of the Lapua (sometimes even a bit better) with .340 ammo considerably cheaper.

    Worth a look.

    I have the AR-30 in .300 Win Mag. Had a TRG-42........both excellent.

Know nothing about the Savage or the Weatherby.
