The 87,310 M1 Rifles in Korea have been greenlighted for import back into the US

I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that TTAG has reported that all those M1 rifles in Korea have finally gotten the OK to be imported back home. Hopefully this will allow us to get some low-cost Garands that aren't too beat-up!

Thanks. There was a thread on this a week or so ago. Don't know who or how many importers are going to be bringing them in but I doubt they will sell for less than what the CMP is charging. In fact, since you won't need to meet the requirements that the CMP has they will probably sell for more.

I'm glad that these rifles won't be melted down and destroyed. Remember this in November guys. BTW, I also heard that they were going to import 1911 pistols and M1 carbines as well, before the current administration blocked it. Does anyone know if they will still be shipped with the Garands?

Hadn't heard anything about any 1911's (those would probably have little or no chance of coming in based on the hassle just getting these Garands has been) and in the other thread it said the carbines were still beiing denied, probably because they can take 15 and 30rd mags.

    This is CMP comment.

GARANDS FROM KOREA: Once again our phone lines and email boxes are flooded with requests for information on the purchase of M1 Garands from Korea. The Korea Times reported last week that the U.S. Government had approved Korea's request to sell 86,000 M1 Garands to U.S. importers. CMP is not a firearms importer and if these rifles are sold to U.S. importers, they will not come to the CMP or be sold by the CMP. We will not have any information on the sale of these rifles.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yep, the CMP only sells US surplus or returned "lend lease" firearms which by definition were are always have been U.S. property.

I am glad these old warrior weapons are returning home. If you bought an M1 Carbine that you paid $600-$800 or more for, you will likely see a devaluation unless your carbine doesn't have an import mark then you may be ok.

    These are Garands, not carbines.

The Obamao administration has specifically nixed the importation of M1 carbines b/c they're so deadly and dangerous.

I hadn't heard anything about 1911's. That would sure be sweet if it happened.

Hopefully they will also bring in several million rounds of cheap 30.06 to go with those guns.

Was wondering about that. Korean PS and KA 30.06 ammo was pretty prevelant a few years ago and I always wondered if they still had the weapons why get rid of the ammo? Was kind of hoping that they were just selling off the older stuff that was past it's mandated shelf life and that they were replacing it with new. If so we very well could see boatloads of 30.06 headed this way.
