Took a few new toys to the range today.
Started with my Bushmaster AR. Lots of changes since the SBR Form 1 came back. The lower now has a Timney trigger, Ergo grip, Sixell Never Quit grip, and I left the standard A2 stock alone. Ran it with an 8" .300 BLK Noveske barrel in an LAR OPS-4 receiver with YHM handguards and QD flash hider. Optic is an Eotech. First I fired ten rounds of 220gr Remington subsonic without the YHM Phantom 7.62 suppressor to make sure the rounds were stable from an 8" barrel before risking a baffle strike. No keyholing in those ten rounds. The upper had to be cycled manually for each shot (as expected unsuppressed). Then I added the Phantom suppressor. Cycled reliably with the suppressor. Since I was mostly just testing for function today, I just got the optic close enough that I can hit center mass with it. Next time, I will get it dialed in properly. This is now my favorite rifle.
Next I switched the upper to a CMMG 6" barrel and bolt in a DPMS upper with a Trijicon optic and YHM pistol-length free-float tube. Fed fine and extracted fine, but would not fire. I would pull the trigger and the hammer would fall, but no bang. Used CCI FMJ subsonic. After a few attempts, I put the upper away to sort out some other time.
Next was my Ruger 22/45. I wanted to test it since I installed a Volquartzen accurizing kit and a Majestic speed strip kit. Ran fine. Used the same ammo as I tried with the CMMG upper. The trigger with the Volquartzen kit is incredible. Highly recommend one if you have a Ruger .22.
Now the .45s. Started with my ParaOrdnance P14 since I swapped out a lot of parts recently. It got a Cylinder & Slide trigger pull kit (basically all new internals), new Guncraft trigger, S&A grip safety and MSH, and Ed Brown thumb safety. Ran fine. Trigger pull is much lighter, but the trigger is just a little tight. Need to take it back apart and remove just a little material from the trigger bow. Overall I'm happy with the improvements. It's going to Robar soon for new night sights and a refinish of the slide and frame in Roguard.
Finally the Ed Brown. WOW! This is the finest pistol I have ever fired. I used to think people were crazy to spend $2-3K for a 1911. I understand now. I should have taken the plunge and bought a high-end 1911 a long time ago. It's pretty enough to be a safe queen, but shoots too well to not carry it. This pistol is going to get a lot of use!
