    new Mini-14

well i picked up my new Ranch Rifle today from the GB auction. everything looks real good (hell, it's factory new). gonna get her cleaned up tonite and take her out back tomorrow and see what she likes to eat. i bought some WWB, Tula, Brown Bear and some Federal to run through it. after that i'll actually see what it does off of a bench rest.

but for now here are some pics......

I love that stock. Pretty rifle. Can't wait for the range report.

Nice! Love the laminated stock. Add a box of 62 grain SS109 if you have one - my old one loves Privi SS109.

Interested in what kind of groups the rusky ammo gives too.

    Thumbs up

Very nice, congrats! Been thinking about getting an AR for home defense, ShTF, plinking, etc. Now I'm thinking a Mini-14 might be a good alternative.

Well, we will see how the range report goes but most all reports that I've seen give 2MOA or better with preferred loads and they eat the rusky stuff without a hickup. That's a big plus in a SHTF situation IMHO. And its not like they're a rare arm - plenty of parts around. Mags are pricey but at least available now.

thanks. the stock was the selling point that tossed me over the edge from just pondering the purchase to total commitment.

that's the 20rd factory mag that came with it.

not shit mags are expensive! i grabbed the only 30rd'r (a Ruger) that the shop had while i was there and it set me back $36. i'm gonna watch GB for a Ruger multi-mag sale for a decent price. they say the aftermarket mags are hit and miss for functionality so i'll be leaning towards factory mags.

If you go to Youtube and look for nutnfancy's videos his done a lot of work with the mini 14. Anyhow, he claims that somebody is supposed to come out with a new and improved mini 14 magazine at a reasonable price.

I got some from Gander Mountain 20 years ago, 30 rounders. Never gave me a double feed, failure to feed or any of that shit. Still have them.

Bought some total shit ones from Cheaper Than Dirt. Shitty lips, wrong angle, not properly treated, double feeding POS. Got rid of them.

I haven't seen the factory mags for under $28 a pop. That's the only bad thing about the minis - Ruger controls the price of the mags... but I got my 10 mags and am done with it.

I try and remember that these can shoot the cheap rusky ammo which will by and far make up for the mag cost over the long run.

5-6 months ago, there were reasonable deals on Ruger 30 rnd mags NIB. I can't remember exact price now but of course it depends on the seller.
When I used to own a Mini, I had exceptional luck with Pro-mag 30 rounders. I like that new 16.5" version of the Mini but man oh man is Ruger proud of Mini's now. What are they up to now? $900?

Was just browsing the CDNN catalog online and they had a couple for around $600. Buds Guns has them from around $660-$720 shipped depending on model.

The going price seems to be $600 on up - depending on the model and options.
