    A "modern" FG-42 anyone?

We have for our buying pleasure MP-40s and STG-44 coming soon, albeit in .22lr, and now you can add an updated version of the WWII era FG-42.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them. ... Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever."--Thomas Jefferson

Not my cup of tea. I don't really like Nazi guns, I have a hard time getting over that stigma. About the only Nazi gun I would like to buy some day would be an MG-42. I am glad to see some one offering it though. More choices are always nice. I have to wonder though how well it would sell. Something along those lines I think would sell better as a semi-auto replica than a modern tactical version of such an old design.

Sort of silly to update the rifle like that then leave it in 8x57

Even a 7.62x54r would be more practical, the Serbians have gone over from 8mm to 7.62x54r for their sniper rifles.

If I were more prosperous, I might get one but the chambering alone would take a fortune to feed it when compared to 7.62x51 and especially 7.62x54r.

I like it more every time I look at it though. 7mm Mauser would be even more expensive but would be a more attractive caliber to me. That's a splendid cartridge.

    Thumbs up

Works for me. I just knew that if I hung onto all those crates of Romanian 8x57 I'd find something besides a Hakim or my bolt actions milsurps to burn it up in. WooHoo!

    Question

Just in case, anyone have a source for FG-42 mags or know if you can convert something like an MG-13 mag to work? According to what was written on the link these use original mags and there can't be many of those available back in 1942 or now. They said new 30rd mags might be in the works but was thinking that might really throw off the balance with that much mag and ammo hanging off the port side.

I think a FN-D BAR mag would work with some modification.

I thought about that. Whatacountry has those for like $12 a pop. I wish I could convert my 1918A3 to 8x57. Thought that OOW used to offer them in that caliber at one time but after getting mine I asked about it and was told something along the lines of "we no longer do that conversion" or words to the effect. If I could pick up an FN-D kit I wonder if I could use the barrel and other parts with the semiauto only receiver on my A3?

not without alot of work , the FN-D dimensions/Design are Specific for IT. Basically the only thing in Common with the 1918A3 is the browning gas system/bolt .
