Very Cool and state-of-the-art in 1911s not just an old milspec.
"For the price, they are getting a custom-quality M1911A1 80-series Colt railgun with a Cercoat finish, stainless internals, Novak sights, and a dual recoil spring assembly borrowed from their 10mm program. "
That's a great looking weapon. I can't believe the break with basic black weapons for the US Military.
Very Cool.
I hope the other branches follow suit.
But Series 80? Why?
Same Colt machining on the frame and slide too.
I wish Sig woulda Ceracoated every piece like that.

After today, it's all historical.
It's just for MARSOC dudes right? I think the rest of the Corps is still stuck with the 9mm Beretta.....
RIDE, SHOOT STRAIGHT AND SPEAK THE TRUTH
They also could have paid less per unit for a comparable quality 1911. I hope it's not an $1800 jam-o-matic but It wil be useless without a quality magazine.
the 1911 guys all of teh net are using this to claim 1911s are definitivy better than glocks. i think this is the first thread ive seen on like 10 forums that hasnt gone that direction.

The American forces have been victims of the Euro concepts. American political hacks wanted the U.S. Military to look more like a U.N. Force. The little 9MM Parabellum fitted the Euro concept of a pistol for looks. The 1911 .45 ACP is not only a powerful handgun but represents American resolve on the Battle Field. What kind of an idiot would want to face an American made steel .45 Colt with a plastic Euro 9MM???
They're talking about up to 40,000 so it maybe bye-bye for the Beretta in the Corps.
"The new 2700-man United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), along with the Force Reconnaissance Companies and the organic Deep Reconnaissance Platoons will be the first users of the new pistol. Although figures as high as 40,000 frames possibly being ordered for Colt could mean that the entire corps could see the Beretta finally retired by the Marines across the board."

So whats next, they gonna start issuing garands? 1911's are pretty but theres better guns out there.
So did enough guys in the Stan that they broke the ol' 14 out of mothballs.
Apparently these bedouin dirt farmer fanatics kept taking pot shots with their old bolt actions from out past six hundred yards. At that distance our M4s just weren't speaking with enough authority. Luckily someone up the chain remembered a time when men carried battle rifles instead of .22s on juice.

The cartridge you're refering to is the 300 AAC Blackout. There have been a couple of threads posted about it.
