308 AR carbines - school me

Thinking of getting into a 308 AR type carbine. What do I need to know? What kind of magazine compatibility is there? SR25 and P-mags?
    TIA

Not sure if this is what you're after but I recalled getting this in a newsletter a few weeks ago.
Not clear if they are for sale or not just yet.

The Colt 901 is different. It can be adapted from .308/7.62, using standard P-Mags, to .223/5.56, using standard AR mags, and back again, in literally seconds.

I was not aware of the Colt 901 until your post Otto. Looks like they are trying hard to come back from irrelevance since everybody makes an AR variant now and for a lot less money.

To the original question, mags are generally 20 rounds per mag. P mags are good from all I've read about them. C Products was making a 20 round steel box mag to fit the DPMS .308 rifles. The Armalite AR10 I think is till using a modified M14 box magazine and they are one of the more expensive mags to source. I'd look at the DPMS rifles myself if I wanted to go Big AR platform.

Also, Armalite now offers a model that takes Pmags.

Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever."--Thomas Jefferson

No long range. Fuck around, range, a bit hunting. My PTR91KP is just too heavy and optics mounting options suck. I was thinking of a 16-18" long barrel, something fairly compact.

Looks like Armalite is coming out with a version that accepts the P-mags too.

You could just order a cheap TV from Amazon like that dude in DC.

JK. I have a DPMS LR-308T. Nice rifle. There are better rifles out there, but they get really pricey. Mine is outfitted with a Trijicon sight, Geissele trigger (tried a Timney, but wasn't a good fit - tolerances can be a little loose on the DPMS rifles), carbine buffer tube and JP captured spring buffer, Magpul CTR stock, Harris bipod, gas-buster charging handle, and a YHM Phantom 7.62 suppressor.

Whatever rifle you choose, make sure you go with one that takes the DPMS style magazine, not the Armalite/Knight style magazine.

I got the model from Bandai.

Getting a bit closer to this... what .308 AR's are compatible with MagPul mags? Bushmaster, DPMS, SIG...
I want the Sig, but that is some serious coin.

i know the new bushmasters are. played with one the other day .

the SIgs take em too. basically anything with the DPMS interface.

If magpul wanted to $$$$$$$$$$ they'd make P-Mags for the 308 SCAR
