Anyone with experience with these german flectarn rucksacks?

Posted a question about this on another board, no responses, so I figured I'd try here. Considering getting one eventually as a hiking/ BOB bag.....Have large and medium ALICE packs for my wife and I already rigged and ready to go. Just curious how well these hold up. How easily they tear, how easily they come apart at the seams, and just overall how good of quality they are.

Opinions? Anyone have or use one?

I've seen them in person at the surplus store.

At first glance they appear to be well made and are certainly a great deal at the price (comparable civi packs being 3x as expensive). But I have not bought one and put it through the ringer as it were.

All the Bundeswehr surplus I have owned (shirts, pants, sweaters) has proven to be of exceptional quality though, FWTW.

Yeah, I had one...have no idea what happened to it...may still be in storage...they are OK for BOB (depends on where you are going)...out into a snow field you just might stand out. I have a US version that is rated at 72 quarts and it is amazing how much it will hold...common old OD and cheap at surplus stores.

Still, I like the old waffenss remembered camp pattern they are using.

no experience with that one, but over the last yr or so i have bought at least 6-8 packs of different designs, from surplus to commercial in an attempt to find something i actually liked.

for me, the clear winner was the fieldline "alpha ops" packs at walmart.
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Fieldline-...-Pack/21501652
they also have a smaller "day pack" i have both.

the construction quality (i can find problems anywhere) i would say is about 90%, whereas most milsurp ones seem to be about 50% or so. the price is near the very bottom range of anything ive gotten (especially the $20 day pack). there is a special pocket for a hydration bladder, with a hole on either side for the tube that, when not in use, is covered up. special sunglasses compartment up top. and so many interior pockets and divisions that im never tearing half of my shit out to find a certain item that got lost in the pile. it also has the molle attachment points on the outside, if u care about that kind of shit. they both have sternum straps on the shoulder straps, and the shoulder straps have qr buckles, so they can be switched side to side for a "sling" style bag (not into that shit either, but seems to be a rage lately) the larger one has a hip belt as well, and, while the smaller one dosent, it does have a buckle on either side that you could attach a hip belt strap, if needed.

no, im not getting paid by them, im just that happy to be able to end my long and expensive backpack buying spree.

I bought a "high end" pack from an Alaskan Outfitter Shop for $180, the saw those at Wally World and got pissed... Same damn pack! I haven't had the side by side but the looked to be cut from the same pattern. Maybe materials are a little different, but I think I could have saved myself $140... Mine is comforable even loaded very heavy. I use mine for travel and have carried two laptops and a docking station in one with hard files and office supplies, camera, stack of estimate rate books, etc...

I bought three of the load bearing harnesses with the butt pack. They seem above average even for non-comblock military. These look like they are built to work with the propriatary West German system which is not Alice or Mole standard. Decent system but Mole seems better... The only mag pouches I've seen for them are 9mm Pistol, 9mm Subgun and .308 twenty round for the G3 (seems there should be some for HK93 .223, but I haven't seen any).

Bag must have some sorta bio-hazard as the guy has to wear gloves when handling.

i bought 2 high end packs. one was a 5.11 tactical, i forget the other brand, it was a popular one. both were over $150. id rate this one about the same quality, with a lot more usefullness, for a fraction of the price.

    eta:

thanks to schutz's post to the manufacturer, i now know that they have a lifetime warranty as well.

i was thinking the same when i first saw this thread, about the proprietary latching system, but looking at the link, to me it just looked like a straight pack with no attachment points one way or the other. i could very well be wrong.
