Haven't shot one, however the P226 is one of the world's most respected handgun designs. You can pretty much count on it being reliable and accurate.

Pick one up and see if you like it. If so, then buy it. Enjoy.

I am in Afghanistan and it is going to be our deployment gun so it will be too late to check them out when I rotate back.

Now has there been a switch from Beretta M9? I carried a P229 for a few years. Good gun. I'm sure the P226 will do its job well.

No switch, it’s something that our CSM is working with SIG.
    I can't add the PIC.

I have a P226 in 9mm I've carried or used as a car and nightstand pistol. Does what it is asked to, accurate, feels good in the hand, points naturally and goes bang every time. I've stacked a mag full of every crap ammo I could find and rapid fired it and it never misses a beat...

People with small hands can find them a little large...

I got to fire a mag thru one a couple of weeks ago that another officer had. It was sweet. I'm actually thinking about getting one my self.

I've only fired one 226 in 9x19 years ago. Shot great and recoil was realtively light due to it's weight. That being said I came away with the impression that I was holding onto it more than holding it. For me the grip had a 2x4 like feel to it. Now this was an early model that my BIL picked up sometime in the early 1990's so SIG may have made some changes to the grip since then. Still a gun I'd like to acquire more just to have than to carry.

They make better open carry pieces than CCW... and like I said, if you wear smaller than size large or XL gloves you might look at something else. Being double stack, the grip is thick...

Another SS226 owner here, but in 9MM. Had mine for going on 10 years now. Probably the most reliable & accurate auto-loader I've owned over the last 30 years or so. I personally greatly prefer Sigs over the Glocks, but that's me. I've also got a Sig 250 compact in .45ACP, another great shooter & ultra-reliable.

I've got a P220 and love it. I bought my buddy a P-5 (225) which is the single-stack brother and it's more accurate than me - reliable too. They are good handguns. You will be well armed.
