    Rock Island 1911. Good gun?

Can anyone give me some info on the ROCK ISLAND 1911? Are they a good entry level 45 acp? What is top dollar you'd be willing to pay for one?

anywhere from $380-500 for entry level they're very good.

if theres something you dont like, buy a new part and swap it out.

I wouldn't pay more than $500. That includes tax and BC fees whatever. Also, at that price it had better be NIB.

    Why?

Used, they retail @ $275 in these parts (great deal on a 1911 bTW)

New, they come in around $425 topps. (Still a great deal.)

But once you break that 500 mark you are now getting into the teritory of Tuarus' 1911 or Sprinfield Armory, or used 1911's of a higher class.

AFA quality goes? They are allright! A little rough on fit and finish but they are built right and go bang like they should. Expect it to be closer to the GI weapons of WWII than to the modern custom offerings. They have all the old quirks including funky sights and potential for hammer bite.

That said, it's a GI 1911 for less than $500 NIB. Hell YES!

If you can get a good deal, I don't think you will be dissapointed. My last handgun was a Rock Island and I kept it in my office in case of robery. I never once for a second worried about reliability or firepower. It was a good pitbull.

Thanks for the replies. I traded my Ruger SR9 for the Rock Island 1911, even trade, no $$$ involved. I haven't shot it yet, but I feel good about the trade.
