Thumbs up Successful Antares Launch From Wallops, VA

Today, at 1700 Eastern, Antares lifted off from Wallops Island Flight Facility. I was about 12 miles north of the site with a small group of people, watching. What was neat was, when the sound finally hit us, it sounded like rolling thunder. Pretty cool.

This past summer, I had a class at Wallops and saw part of the Antares fusilage in the test facility where they were testing for rotational stability. The whole thing was pretty impressive.

Today's test was a test launch (it was carrying a dummy payload), but the next launch of an Antares is supposed to be carrying a real payload.

This launch puts Wallops on the short list of serious launch facilities. They hope to enlarge their facility to be able to launch bigger rockets in the future.
