Keep your eyes focased toward that guy Ben Ghazi.
My opinion is they are buying it all, put the ammo sellers out of of business now. Then reset regs for when the supply is back to make it harder to resart a business. JMO.

    As a footnote.

I think the national socialist regime is buying up the ammo and storing it in various locations so we the people will have it after China and Russia have nuked the regime, the national socialist regime knows the Russians and Chinese will invade shortly after the decapitation strike and thusly we the people will need ammo.

Which means it has to be totally off base as the Government is not Logical or Rational. They are however, quite power hungry.

The national socialists don't suspect their comrades in Russia and China, wich will be the regimes downfall.

As far as I know all ammo plants are pumping 24/7 nonstop. At that rate you WOULD think that the supply would improve after 4 months of peak demand. So either people are still buying like mad or somebody is buying up all of it in big blocks. I personally think people are buying it vs. the Gov. buying all of it. People are spooked, people DO NOT trust this Government anymore. They see them as an enemy preparing to attack in some capacity be it an attack on their rights to simply own a firearm or an out and out physical attack by armed stooges. Now we hear of the IRS attacking conservative groups, this only helps paint the picture of a corrupt evil government that is hell bent to destroy freedom and liberty.

All that and record gun sales = the ammo industry hasn't got the capacity to produce to the demand curve IMO.
and you had a whole nation recycling program to fuel the war industry. Where are the ammo manufacturers getting materials to manufacture the ammo?

I buy from one of the LARGEST suppliers on the West Coast - guns and ammo. He hasn't been able to get ANY .22 or 9mm in quantities more than 1-2 boxes a week for THREE MONTHS now. What gives? He hasn't had .22 for weeks (not that it's being bought up right away, he just isn't getting it).

I just gave up. I haven't checked THIS week so things might have changed, but seriously. NONE of the answers there feel like they explain the total shortage.

the thing I don't get with the whole "all the ammo get bought up as soon as it hits the shelves" is that I have yet to hear from anyone who has seen a whole truck load of ammo get delivered and grab a case for themselves. You'd expect to hear people saying "you just didn't get there early enough". Instead the ammo is coming in in a trickle. If CCI is making .22lr 24 hours a day, who the F is buying it before we do?

With all the people I interact with, and all the people that the members of the websites interact with, someone somewhere should have seen a good supply of ammo.

I am wondering how possible it would be to go to CCI and follow a "load" of ammo to see where it is falling off the earth.

I will add that I did see a case of .22 lr CCI mini-mags get delivered at walmart of which I bought 200 rounds. .22lr is as rare as unicorn farts around here.

Walmart also had a case of 9mm federal 100 packs for $21.99/100

Do you think distributors are holding on to it? Does ammo normally go through distributors or do companies like CCI and federal ship directly to gunshops and sporting goods stores?

This is one of the things that I would like to find out. If ammo does go to a central location, like a distributer, I can't imagine a distributer sitting on that much ammo, but greed has no bounds.

Kinda hard to buy 5000 rounds of .22lr when its going for $75/500

Has anyone even seen 5000 rounds of .22lr in the same place recently? I scope out gun shops, sporting good stores and walmart all the time. I have been lucky to catch walmart unpacking ammo a couple of times.

    The ammo just isn't there.

I agree with you 100%. You guys know that I acquired literally a bunch of ammo last summer, but that was SUMMER 2012. Almost a year ago. Now I've been looking and I can't even get close to 1/50th of what I got last summer anywhere in the state. And if I wanted one case of .22LR or 9mm, forget about it. The local stores don't even have a single BOX. My acquisition was supposed to last me five years of leisurely weekend shooting trips with friend, blasting out all the different calibers. Now I don't dare use anything. It may be the last ammo I see in years (half joking of course)....

Have I seen a 5,000 round case of .22 LR, nope. I haven't seen 5000 rounds of .22 LR total in 3 stores since December last year. Our local Walfart hasn't had 5 boxes of .22 lr on the shelf since about mid January this year. I've counted 21 boxes of .22 magnum but for the last month even all that's been gone.

Yeah I'm trying to wrap my head around where exactly did that guy get his mythological 5000 rounds? I know local wholesalers who haven't had that much in 90 days.

Years ago I bought a case of CCI Mini-Mags (10 bricks of 500 - or 5000 rounds). It cost me something like under $200 if I recall.

Federal is saying the same thing, they are running at 100%. They also address the feds purchase of ammo. Do I believe them? Why would they print a false statement?

    http://www.federalpremium.com/company/faq.aspx

Roger, back when my daughter and I went shooting every weekend, we used to by CCI blazer by the case, and back then it cost $75 delivered for the 5000 round case. While I can understand price increases over the last 10 years due to dollar value and cost of metals, there is no reason ammo should be costing what it does, other than that wonderful part of capitalism called greed and the fact that some people just don't know how to say NO!

Same here, I hardly shoot anymore. Very frustrating!
